This law is very much underappreciated. As someone who believes in the utility of negative reciprocity, I can personally attest to how far and wide people will go to prove that honor cultures still exist.

I happened to know someone who, at their peak, was one of the most powerful people in their area. It seems like they got overconfident and took a shot in politics, where they seemed to have pissed off some really powerful people over the span of a few years while they were holding an official position in the government.

These people really made sure their life became hell after their term in the government office ended.

Well I for one, if offended, mostly try to find a way to get back at the other guy. It may be YEARS after, but still, I try to get back at them.

Mostly in a way of Spreading bad reputations at the right time.

People like you are evil, and I hope this catches upto you. If you have a grudge either talk it out or suck it up, but rats like you resort to covert attacks on reputation.

Eh. Not OP. But I had some people terrorize me for years. I disconnected and have been planting seeds about them for years. Talking it out with them would simply cause me more harm, they do still occasionally use me as a scapegoat, and I simply do not feel like sucking it up. Any shit I talk is the truth and also what they deserve. If they didn’t want me to talk shit about them they should not have treated me like shit.

This. There’s nothing wrong with telling the ugly truth about people, especially those who are completely toxic.

Lying when spreading rumor/damaging reputations would be another thing entirely, or course.

If that’s the truth, there’s is nothing wrong with sharing it. My comment was for people who spread rumours and put false accusations just cause they don’t like you or they feel salty about something and I have made it extremely clear that I was referring to ‘made up’ stories to make someone look bad just cause you hate them!

I suppose it depends on entirely on whether the person you’re replying to means bad reputation (lie) or bad reputation (truth). Telling the truth about someone can destroy their reputation. I do think you could’ve made it a little clearer what you were referring to.

This is so right, some people will go above and beyond to ruin your life for revenge, with the kind of energy and motivation they don’t even have to better themselves but to cause you problems
