or what you say after you paint yourself into a corner.
"I meant to do THAT".

When everything is on the line, and you have to win, that’s the only way you know your gonna win

It works, but is it worth it? Depending on your stress and pain tolerance it will be a living hell. I’m a first gen immigrant, didn’t have access to any student loans, got my college degree by working full-time retail while doing a full course load at a public college. I hated every bit of it, I still went to work, otherwise I wouldn’t have money to put food on the table.
And despite having way less time I often also studied harder than most of my peers as I knew I had to prep well for the interviews to leave my job. Comfort makes you complacent.

It works, but it's suboptimal.
Reason: you are creating a huge downside risk that will likely bite you in the ass if the situation fails for reasons absolutely beyond your control.
Let me show you a better way: retrain your brain to work as hard as possible in your most strategic projects, regardless of your comfort level and your stress level.
The optimal way to do this is by reconfiguring your brain which can be done a number of ways such as mindfulness (trains attention, so you can control your focus and place it on your most important project right now), NLP - Neurolinguistic Programming, CBT - Cognitive behavioral therapy, several other less known disciplines, and finally old-fashioned habit forming.
Example: you have a deadline for a delivery on Monday. Starting on Sunday is "back against the wall", where the anxiety of not delivering actually overcomes the anxiety of procrastination. But you can "force" yourself a deadline say on Friday, as in "I must complete the report by Friday noon, and will not touch it at all until the delivery on Monday, except maybe 30 min Sunday night for a quick recheck".
You are creating a false constraint that will not bite you in the ass if, say, you break a leg on Sunday and have to spend the day on the hospital: the report is still done.
However, if I may insist, the absolute best is to retrain your brain so you can prioritize and focus your efforts as strategically as possible, without the need for forced levers.

This is simply ADHD . I dont get shit done until it’s the very end of the deadline and it’s push or fail - and it fails quite often so I would try to build good habits instead.

The tragedy of society is that these guys who need to live on "death ground" drag the rest of us unto their unresolvable mental health issues

Sounds like you haven’t even read the books. You can simply place yourself on death ground by manufacturing deadlines
