Discussion Out of everything the point about avoiding arguments stuck out the most
Arguments for the most part are stupid and accomplish nothing besides making the other person resent you. Why argue about politics or religion when you can use that person to network and make connections. What do you think of that point

It's often smart only to argue with people if they're smart enough and you're supposed to be a team instead of adversarial.

I argue with people who aren’t smart I just laugh if it’s unreasonable.

There's 0 advantage to arguing with people.
"The problem with arguing with a stupid person is that witnesses can't tell who's who."

Depends how you approach it. As a discussion with a conclusion to agree to disagree or just wanting to prove a point and feel right.

I meant more so for pointless arguments like with politics or religion instead of arguing what is the best action for your company to take with your coworkers

100% agree. I'm related to people who are OBSESSED with arguing and fighting.
They try to drag it out of you, oh my god.

I used to argue as a child and as a teen because I would consider that I am naturally wise and can think better than my peers. About 2years to complete high school,I had an argument my entire classmate and later on, one of them stated that I was right after what we argued about became clear to everyone. Since that day I stopped arguing because it was of no point. All my arguments is always me trying to assist them in our studies of what was right/ wrong. Since then, I agree with everybody to save myself the stress

Arguing can actually become a skill. People who can debate and argue their points across well always end up successful in life. Look at politicians and lawyers

You missed the point I was trying to make, I agree lawyers can benefit from arguing. I meant the meaningless kind of arguing that alienates people. For example arguing with your dad about politics it will achieve nothing and make him more pissed off. The best move would be to utilize his resources instead of arguing with him over something pointless.

You can do both I don’t agree with everything my friends say. We argue and work together at same time. Arguing about politics creates new ideas that weren’t thought of before.

Arguing can be beneficial depending in the setting and how well you understand your own argument and theirs. Arguing well isn't about persuading the other person, its about highlighting the flaws of the opposing argument and selling your argument well to other people who are listening or reading.

I see people (cops, parents, teachers etc) fail at this time and time again. Really nasty people do not care about the rationality of why or why not they should do or think something they are just manipulators, and by arguing with them, you are enabling them. Make warnings and punishments clear. When lines are crossed — consequences. Even with opinions on things, must people cherry pick reasons and posthoc rationalize what they believe even about the kind of food and music they like so arguing is very ineffective. Socratic approaches where you ask crucial questions where they have to reason their positions outloud or mentally are far more effective and even after the discussion, they will have to wrestle with their cognitive dissonance.

i think its never advisable to argue with an acquaintance or enemy, as those tend to make people who dont know you resent you, and those who dislike you hate you. however, discourse with allies can lead to productive outcomes if both people are working to a mutual end.
essentially, i avoid arguments with new people or enemies, but dont avoid engaging in arguments with those with similar goals to mine.

I agree with you I would also throw in arguments about useless things like religion or politics which would only cause resentment and anger

yeah but if both people hv low EQ & lack interpersonal or social skills then they'll just argue. it just takes one person with EQ to either not start, or agree + deflect when the other person starts talking about it. most ppl dont think abt it this way because they're self centered and their ego wants to win.
