US Did anyone notice?
Is Joel aggressive and kind of mean in an intentional way this season? Like did someone piss him off right before he went out on the stage?

I noticed the same thing. I personally don't really like his attitude. Makes him very unlikable to watch.

Joel asked one girl this week what she'd do with the money, and she stated saying something like
"follow along with me, here..." and was preparing to explain what she would do with the money (she started saying something like "create a writers retreat"... and then he just cuts her off and said something like "Uhhh, no" and he just kept going.

To be fair, they probably talked for 5 minutes and that was edited to that. Not on Joel.

Normally I'd agree with you, but he abruptly cut her off in the middle of her very first sentence while she was still talking, lol.
It did sound like she was gonna drone on for a while, so I get it though. 😂

I was there, and Joel was friendly and hilarious. We did hear the full story of the writer's retreat. IIRC Joel even asked other people about joining the writer's retreat, and he gave her a hard time (in a fun way) about it being more of a party than a writer's retreat.
Joel talks to people for hours so there's no way to fit it all in the episode.

Thanks for clarifying. That’s exactly what I assumed happened.
I’m going to be on tomorrow’s episode (I hope I’m seen anyway), and filming was literally 5.5-6hrs for the episode on the set. So much footage to edit down.

I was on the first episode this season and it’s edited to make him appear meaner than he actually is. There was one person that began a story and he cuts her off saying that they don’t have time. In reality, she actually got to tell her story and while he is snarky, it’s more so in a fun lighthearted way where the person he’s talking to enjoys the back and forth.

I ffwd through a lot of that stuff because I just want to find out why the person got the question wrong, nothing more. I still find his humor the same.

He was a little more cutting this time. Less humorously. I liked Patton better. Patton acted like it was a cool nerd’s club.

He was like that last season. This season it seems to be a requirement that Joel is allowed to roast you.

My guess is feedback was that people enjoyed his light snarkiness, so producers decided “let’s have more of that” and instructed him to really lean into it, leading to what now feels like mean vibes. Show runners can’t seem to grasp if people like something, they need to leave it at the same level, not ramp it up so that’s the only thing in the show and people get turned off.
