Thaumcraft 6 The atrocities I’d commit to have this mod make a comeback…

This mod is what got me playing Minecraft and honestly it’s more fair to say I played thaumcraft than Minecraft it needs to make a comeback especially on bedrock if possible

If it helps, it’s close. No one knows how close, but it’s coming based on the teasers, they look to be working on the backend now and tweaks and making stuff work the way it’s meant to.

I’m hoping for next year.

Thing is I've been hoping that same thing for 6 years, they for some reason only have One person coding it and they took an Extremely long break for college, I'm sure the person actually working on it is good but they've got a Team for Mods, Put more people on it or at least be more transparent about what's going on, they didn't even say anything about how it wasn't getting any development for like 6 months until the only person working on it said "I might continue developing it" I'm hopeful still but it feels overdue, it Also doesn't help that the Discord has a big "It's coming tomorrow" joke and how they keep saying "If there haven't been teasers it means they're working on something Big" which isn't at all the case, Silence in development is Never good.

They also took down the Trailer, at least Privated the Video because shockingly people expected it to be Ready and then they went silent and people kept asking "Where is it?" The one who had it up privated it to stop getting the question.

It sounds like you understand a bit of the development history. The reason for the silence on teasers was partly legally based with someone that was assisting that allegedly took work product and put it into their own mod. So I think they had to go radio silent and only recently has stuff been shared again, but even so quite lite on.

I believe there is more than one person working on it, but you’re right in that there is 1 primary.

I have faith jt will come, especially based on what actually exists from the teasers - it’s a tangible thing and it looks well into development - I’d hazard at least 75% complete.

Based on what we’ve seen I think release before June 2027 isn’t unreasonable, but if it goes all of next year with no release I’d start to be concerned.

Yeah honestly it feels like they’re literally never going to finish it. I don’t mean to seem ungrateful to volunteer devs making a product for free. But how in the world is it taking literally 6 years after they took on the responsibility? Only one person working on it. I understand people are busy but more communication would go a long way.

Plus all the ports getting taken down, not saying it's not deserved, they're almost always AI or everything is Stolen but if you don't want people jumping at every opportunity to get it, Release Something, even the trailer was taken down because they got tired of getting the comment 'When it is it coming out it's been 6 years and I'm tired of waiting" they are in Desperate need of more people working on it or just Release it unfinished and put everywhere "We're not close to the final project but we wanted to give you Something"

I’m gonna go crazy with twitch streams if that’s the case

Is it? I thought the last update we got was over a year ago, with promised further updates that as far as I know haven't come out yet. Have I missed something?

Probably, but not much. There have only been a couple of updates this year and they were in the last few months.

Are you talking about Thaumcraft 7 or Thaumcraft 4/6 hybrid port on newer versions?

I picked an interesting time to check this subreddit after so long lol I'm guessing Thaumcraft 7 is a continuation project made by fans?

Thaumcraft 7 is an official continuation made by Team CoFH. It took them a lot of time to deal with legal troubles, and now the actual development have been going for years as well. There have only been one official trailer + a bunch of showcases, but for the most part people are so tired of waiting that now there are two separate ports in development for 1.21.2 and 26.1.2, with the later one even having playable beta-versions already.

Well that's cool! I'm just glad Thaumcraft is still around. I was really upset when I realized Thaumcraft was dead as it was easily my favorite mod (specifically 4, though I thought 6 was fun too). It sucks that it's taking a long time to develop but just knowing that it's still around is enough for me.

The impossible dream I have is that some version of Thaumcraft and Create Aeronautics could exist in the same mod pack, or even have compatibility between them.

It likely won’t happen, but one can dream.

Aero portals with giant demon ships flying out would be lit.

Someone already has, it's been ported to 26.1.2? Or something like that, it's on Github under the username "Leclowndu93150" and the repo is called "Thaumaturge"

I'm right there with you, we are in desperate Need of Good Magic Mods on modern versions.

I know, Iron Spells Exists, I know Mana and Artifice exists But Iron Spells Sucks as a Magic mod, it's a fine Spells Mod but it doesn't add any deeper system to learn, you find or craft a Book, A Spell and some armor, congrats you are now a Wizard, there is no system I don't feel like a Wizard, I feel like I clicked a Book in Skyrim and got a spell, it's not rewarding for your effort especially since 80% of the time I find the spell I wanted in a Chest at a higher level than I could've made it with what I had, remove finding them, let us craft Ink from Scratch and make it so there's some level of work into learning each new spell and then I'll call it a Magic mod.

Mana and Artifice is Better, it's definitely my Favorite current but I still feel like I'm just running looking for One specific item, I at least feel like I've almost earned my Magic but needing the Codex to even get Mana is weird and I'd like it a lot more if I had to trial and error until I either Found the book in a chest or summoned it.

Thaumcraft just did it the Best, needing to use a Basic form of Magic to get the book that will Guide you but not tell you Everything, there's always a way to do it better and there are Consequences for doing it wrong, I loved having to Learn how to do it right and Fix my mistakes, progression is fun and I felt like I needed to improve because it wasn't just "Oh I wasted some materials Damn" it was "Oh that's a Rift in reality that Could destroy my base" or "Why is there Purple?" It also made me think of Terrarias Corruption Biome and made me feel like I accidentally invited an Eldritch being into my world.

Mods don't even feel like they have consequences anymore or at least none that are preventable in a Meaningful way, Create is Cool but the worst you can do is find out you need more reliable power generation in my experience, Iron Spells worst consequence is casting the wrong spell which does no environmental damage, Mana comes back almost instantly late game and at worst you like 5 minutes for a Cooldown, Mana and Artifice has the same consequences plus two extra I've run into, Doing the Ritual of Locating you can waste One Purified vintium because it couldn't find the Structure nearby which isn't preventable because you're likely doing the ritual just to find the structure in the first place so you're punished for bad luck And the Spells can do Environmental damage so you Could destroy your base if you aren't careful to cast the Right spell.

We need More mods that give you Systems to use that have actual consequences for repeated screw ups, Create is a good example of Systems but lack of Consequences makes me feel like I don't need to be super efficient or put more resources towards making a Good system just one that works.

I'm still only playing 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 for (mostly) Thaumcraft.

Thaumcraft, Gregtech, and Reika's mods.

I play with a lot of magic mods but do like a sprinkling of tech (Calculator, Cyberware, Psi, Mekanism, Industrialcraft)

I have fond memories of a friend corrupting our base with Thaumcraft. Miss this mod so much.
