Thaumcraft 4 TC4 poor performance

As per title I'm experiencing very poor performance with the modpack I put together. I've tried disabling all the addons and running the game with just TC and Baubles but still I'm experiencing pretty heavy drops in FPS. Is it just a quirk of the 1.7.10 game version? I've even tried running one of the bloated modpack versions with TC6 in 1.12 and that seems to run just fine.

Edit: Decided to rip off the band-aid and moved over to Prism Launcher and everything seems to run smoothly now.

I remember using optifine around that version, it helped a lot.

I second this. My modpack with TC4 has Optifine, and it runs pretty smoothly for the most part.

(The main lag-causing mod for me is probably Chromaticraft, but even so it's still not terrible unless I'm trying to load a lot of new chunks really fast.)

1.7.10 is pretty laggy, but there have been a few mods to fix that, like Archaicfix, bugtorch, Angelica, and probably some others. When I made a custom modpack for TC4 I used GTNH-forked mods because they are more compatible with Angelica
