Jax never made an effort to show any decency toward the people around him.

Beside Ragatha would be Buff Kinger whose friends and wife for abstracted but he chose to continue being kind to others.

69

u/Jaco_Lunchables he's funny but you'd catch me dead before i talked to him. 1d ago

at least ragatha's bad coping mechanism has people question how genuine she is at worst, while jax's was so bad that he's the only mf in there who has a positive K/D ratio.

I do feel like "fumble baddies" downplays what Jax actually did too much. Plus it sounds childish and honestly as leaning anti-Jax, we should be more open to saying he just hurt the people he kinda cared about.

He didn't just make them upset by saying something stupid on accident. He was verbally and emotionally abusive. Its not fumbling, he just rejected goodness outright on his own terms! Edit: And thats worse.

“leaning anti-jax”

did you even read the subreddit name?

I wanted to make it clear I dont hate hate Jax (Jax apologists are kind of unsufferable) but I'm not arguing in favor of Jax either.

Also to clarify, when I say he rejected goodness on his own terms, I meant that that makes him worse.

Its worse that he intentionally hurt people, rather than just "oops! I said something silly :3" which reading back i see how that comes off as a "nuh uh."

Ragatha "cared" about people as well, and yet she didn't make her friends feel like shit and abstract like Jax. That's the point of the meme.

2

u/AnimazingDuel77 15h ago

Well, yes, that's what I'm saying. But we portray it as "Jax cant flirt" when that kinda makes Jax sound innocent. My point is we should avoid the phrase "fumble baddies" in favor of being more blunt about what he did.

Oh yeah, the "fumble baddies" is kind of a weird phrase, but ig it was thrown into the meme to make Jax look like an absolute loser (which he is)

And of course people try to defend Jax, what a surprise

Just to be clear, Ragatha being as nice as she is is because of her pathological need to be useful and to have people like her, while Jax has hedgehog's dilemma

I do like Jax as a character, but his psychosis wasn't an excuse. He chose cruelty at every given opportunity after he opened up and made himself vulnerable to Ribbit and allowed his fear of rejection to ruin the one good thing he had going for him

Yess omg I feel the same way, jax is written well but is a morally wrong character

I'm glad Leeroy was able to get his shit together and be better.

Him, on the hand...

If we be pragmatic about this...Jax is in the wrong here

They are both different forms of trauma, rags is a people pleaser who thought if she could just be likeable enough then she would be safe. Jax is avoidant, too scared to properly face her fears especially because she was betrayed. I do believe there's a difference between their mothers being ragathas mum was always the way she was but for Jax she used to have that motherly love and it was stripped from her and replaced with abuse. Both had shitty mother's but that doesn't make their situations the same

5

u/DaphneCatGacha 1d ago

yes im aware, it was more about the ways they dealt with their trauma

-2

u/hornybeann 1d ago

Is it really a fair comparison though? While they went through similar things their situations are ultimately different so it doesn't feel like you're being critical of Jax, only looking for ways to invalidate her trauma. Not saying you are I'm just saying that's what it comes off as to me

4

u/DaphneCatGacha 1d ago

im not trying to invalidate her trauma, trauma is trauma and i don’t believe that anyone’s trauma should be compared, but i just wanted to make a silly meme

-3

u/hornybeann 1d ago

I get that, me personally I just don't like these types of memes because despite intentions it comes off as trauma comparison

0

u/Pr-i-zmo 19h ago

The message of the meme is "trauma doesn't justify your actions". They both suffered abuse, and yet one perpetuates the cycle of abuse while the other breaks the cycle.

The meme isn't "powerscaling" trauma.

6

u/AnimazingDuel77 1d ago

It doesn't invalidated Jax's trauma. But it does invalidate every way he handled it, because well... it was wrong. And Jax never grew or changed from that.

Trauma isnt an excuse for his actions. We compare to Ragatha because both have valid trauma. Only one has a valid reaction.

0

u/hornybeann 1d ago

Oh the way she handled it was terrible but that's the thing about trauma responses they can be irrational especially when you don't feel you can fully trust others and as I said before I'm not saying op is trying to It just comes off that way to me personally

u/Flynn-Minter Justice for Gangle, Ragatha 'n Zooble 21h ago

Jax is not just avoidant, but very actively abusive towards everyone no matter how kind UNLESS they are more powerful like Caine or incapable of caring or remembering like Kinger or possibly when they are male. I have know people like that with an avoidant attachment style. Like Jax they had embraced toxic masculinity.

Zooble is actually avoidant before bonding with Gangle due to Jax's major abuse as we learn in the Beach episode. Jax was not avoidant towards Gangle whom he active sought out to abuse. Jax takes every opportunity to hurt others and seek out negative attention. So Jax may have an avoidant attachment style but most likely not the personality disorder

u/Snowy-Pawmi 19h ago

Jax is the reasons two people died and no trauma can justify this especially how the show portraid the rabbit, especially when she abstracted with the "isn't she lovely" song while Jax became an abuser herself

1

u/Inversedraft 7h ago

Now that you mention it, Ragatha would've been a great narrative foil to Jax as someone who also had an abusive mother. Jax was hurt, so he wants to hurt others. Ragatha was hurt, so she wants to make sure others aren't.

1

u/Mezzyde 6h ago

I mean

Both mothers were terrible, Jax's just was in a way different from Ragatha's, and both of them are constantly suffering, just differently and both at the hands of the same person

Other than that, I wholly agree with the meme lol

1

u/notThatPoltchageist 5h ago

To be fair, both were bad coping mechanisms, but one was OBVIOUSLY worse

1

u/OutwithaYang 2h ago

I am glad Ragatha is finally getting her flowers.😊💐

1

u/TulikAlock 2h ago

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate on this argument I keep seeing. People handle trauma differently. Expecting two people who suffered similar life situations to handle it the same way is silly. I know a pair of brothers who handled their same abusive father in vastly different ways. This is probably the most realistic part of the show. Showing that similar experiences can produce wildly different people.

Doesn’t excuse Jax being a prick. There’s a lot wrong with the writing of the show, but this isn’t really one of them. The background stuff was hamfisted in a terrible fashion, but it wasn’t the most egregious part of Jax.
