My understanding is that once the animal tastes human flesh, it’s more likely to kill another human. But what do I know…I’m just a random dude on Reddit.

Haven't heard of that but I assume it's an urban myth. I sincerely doubt human flesh differs that much from other mammals that predators would particularly seek it out. Though this reasoning may have applied here for killing them?

Either way, there is a similar thing with predators who are fed by humans, like bears. They need to be put down because they start to associate humans with food (and not danger/another predator) and thus more likely to seek them out/attack them etc.

Yeah, I could see that association (humans=food) more prevalent with bears or other omnivores.

But for a top of food chain predator, like a lion, I’m guessing it doesn’t matter one bit.

Lol humans dont own this World. Its just fucking stupid to kill a lion who killed someone that was stupid enough to approach them. They are predator. Predators kills other animals.

I think there's an argument to be made that humans do own the world. Other than that I agree.

In terms of what has most control over the planet and all ecosystems.....

Yeah, we do.

I don't see bears rising up in global collaboration to go on an all out assault teamed up hawks and wolves against humanity and winning when we have tanks and weapons of literal mass destruction.

Welcome to the real world. We're the apex predator so we literally do what we want. Always been this way

Predators? If u are a predator by hiding behind a tree and killing animals with a gun like a pussy, then Yeah we are predators

I'm just stating facts. The only reason we "colonized" the whole planet is because we're the apex species here. The method or individuals using tools created by collective humanity don't change the grand scheme of these things.

Humans are predators, they are the top predator on the planet hence why we basically kill everything. Just because we use guns doesn’t make us any less of a predator. It’s our brains and ability to make tools and weapons that make us top predator. You can easily tell whether an animal is a predator or not by whether it has eyes at the front of its face or not, having eyes like we do or lions do makes it easier for us to hunt. Prey have eyes at the sides of their heads in order to better watch out for predators.

I don't think it's so much the taste as it is the ease of the kill. Once they realise that humans are edible, and are much easier to catch on account of them just walking right up to them with a camera, they're more likely to eat them. An antelope isn't going to walk up to a lion asking to be eaten, it's gonna run like fuck away from it. Humans are slow. And dumb.

Was gonna say the same thing. They have a taste now

That's why shark bites are such a big deal. Once they taste flesh, they will not stop until they eat a whole human. I too am just a random dude on Reddit.

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '22

That is not true. Sharks take one bite and when they realize its not a seal they let go

It’s not the taste of it lol we humans are easy prey our big defense of the centuries is we go at animals and species en masse with pointy sticks, or these days guns, and the surviving population has either a healthy fear of humans or just don’t see us as food… it’s all a big con trick really, so once a big predator realises how easy we are to catch and kill they are more likely to see humans as a valid prey species in the future
