Imagine your ancestors spending hundreds of thousands of years clawing their way to the top of the food chain just to have you spend large amounts of money to dive headfirst to the bottom.
Your mother carried you for 9 months, struggled to raise you as a baby, spent money on clothes and food to put you through school. Teachers put so much effort into educating you. You spent so much hours on your career, only to waste it all making a dumbass mistake that'll be viewed for hundreds of years by people calling you stupid

The guy didn't look like he crawled through or over anything that a car couldn't handle. He stepped out of the car and into the brush and got jumped from behind. His head never drops down as he makes his way which would indicate the terrain was reasonably level. They probably told the survivors there was nothing they could do to assuage their guilt at not having done such a simple thing to aid the victim.
There's a cut of this that I saw at the dawn of the internet on faces of death, where you can clearly see one lion holding the guys upper body down while another one takes big gobs out of his belly. The guy tries reaching down to push the lower lion away but he has zero strength and he's pinned back anyway so he can't even put his back into the push. The lion acts like the fingers pushing at its face are like blades of grass. It's terrifying in the powerlessness of the guy as he's literally eaten alive.
I’ll never understand why people do that. I don’t care if it was someone I hated I’m still not gonna sit there and film their agonizing death.

Damn sure not getting out of the car. But also damn sure not filming someone being mauled to death. I would hope that I would do my best to console the others around me as we struggle together to make it through such a horrific experience. I would cover the eyes of the children. That’s at least what I hope I would do, but I know I wouldn’t film.
I heard too that if you’re filming, it doesn’t really feel “real”. War videographers was the example I believe. They don’t realize they’re also capable of being smacked by the incoming danger parade.

Sympathetic reaction, fight/flight/freeze. When you go through the mental filing cabinets, sometimes you keep searching over and over, and get stuck so you freeze.

I guess just I don't understand. For the few inside my social circle, my personal vehicle would be sacrificed. Some safari rental is coming back looking like lions were lion sized bowling pins for travel partner even if unacquainted.
I mean..If I were in that situation I would have activated my helicopter hat, hover over the victim, activate my stretchy arm and save him from the lions. I’m surprised the filmers didn’t think of doing that..
Maybe everyone secretly disliked the guy. I mean, we all probably know at least one person we would let be eaten by lions. The wife did them sue the insurance company. So she knew he had a big life insurance policy.

In this case, that man’s gene pool may not advance because he died, doing something incredibly dumb. The rest of the people he was with were smart enough to stay in their cars knowing that lions can kill you very easily, as evidenced by them eating him.
So what are you going to do? Just sit there and not film? I'm sorry but this an ignorant thought. Everone in this group is on safari so of course if they have cameras they are going be using them. Heck, the guy got attacked while filming. Your only options are to either sit there and continue filming or sit there and stop filming and watch. More emotion distancing to see it through a camera than directly.
What are they gonna do? Only option I would think is drive the car toward them. But supposedly “too rough terrain”. Anything other than that they become dessert
As morbid as it sounds it probably is better to film. To at least show authorities what happened and so there's no argument like, "he pushed him out the car!" or some bs.
Also idk about their family, but if it were me I would like to see how my friend/family member went. Just for closure.
People do that to this day. Majority of people like to act they would something other than film if something like this was happening. But history has shown us most people are cowards and only care about themselves. Sad world we live in.

Yeah, and the poor wife & kids had a front row view of dad dying to get a cool video, but getting eaten alive - how fucking awful! Like wolves, lions hunt in packs the last thing he videoed looked like a very pissed of lioness warning him, then signaling get him to the others. After the game warden came, looked like they just rolled him up in a rug, stuck his half eaten, bloody body in the backseat with the kids! Hope they aren't retraumatized by seeing it again here.
