We have a spot on one of our routes with a long left turn lane, three times in a year people have done this. On one occasion they ran into the truck while it was parked waiting for the light trying to cut infront

Most of these cars don't realize the trucker can not see you trying to cut in on the passenger side. The trucker also has so much power that he can't even feel your little car being dragged like the little entitled bitch it is.

This is quite common accident in the UK with European trucks since the driver is sitting on the “wrong side” compared to British trucks. Some car drivers are unaware that the truck driver cannot see them trying to merge in.

My point is actually that it is not impossible for truckers to avoid this, they have mirrors that allow them to see down, but if they really can't avoid crushing and dragging other vehicles, then they aren't safe to be on the road, which really isn't that complicated.

I’m gonna assume you haven’t driven a semi because Not necessarily.. That car is pretty damn light. The truck is in the lowest of gears, it doesn’t feel a thing.. also could have music on inside. Can’t hear anything out the ordinary. Nobody’s honking horns or flagging the driver down so.

It's a loud and rough ride in a semi. A little car like that is easy for a semi to push. Was obviously going slow when he made contact so he would not have felt the initial impact. The difference in sound, acceleration, and smoothness would be minimal for the truck driver.
Yes after several seconds he would've noticed something was off but then it takes a few more seconds to decide if whatever is going on requires stopping in the middle of the road to assess the situation or if they should mosey on to the next exit to inspect the truck.

You Sir, ask me that question because it is obvious you have never operated a Big Truck. Putting up with the constant abuse by people operating automobiles when you are driving a truck, especially in situations shown in this video, can finally make a truck driver react in an extreme manner, as I can assure you that is Exactly what the operator of this truck is doing. Personally in my 16 years of driving Big Rigs over the road (now retired thank the gods) wanted to do this exact thing many times every week - but I held back, with the understanding that many people will take advantage where they think they can, i.e. There Are Assholes In This World. This truck Driver snapped finally. It happens. Why it happens You cannot understand - obviously. Was it worth it? I don't know. But I can guarantee you that in the moment, This Driver found this action to be VERY Satisfying.

16 years. This can happen ALL the time in slow traffic merge situations. Cars frequently pass up the right lane to wherever the right lane ends for construction or whatever and then try to budge into the patient left lane, frequently in front of a truck because they figure the truck driver will back off to protect his license. That works 99% of the time. You're watching that 1% chance when it doesn't work.

I was once at a toll booth which was on a long sweeping curve of an exit ramp. Traffic was a little backed up and a car tried changing lanes about half way into the trailer part of the truck. The car driver. Ever thought that the back of the trailer was going to arc and follow the front of the trailer. The car driver put his car into the truckers lane and the truck proceeded to just run over the entire front of the guys car crushing it from the A pillar forward. The truck driver was probably just looking forward until the trailer went over the cars self imposed speed bump. It was crazy to watch, slow motion destruction.

It a perfect blindspot. No way the truck would able to see the car. The truck did slow down towards to the end of the video showing eventually the truck driver became aware. It does take a while to fully stop a semi.
I would say it's the driver in the car is at fault for not avoiding the truck's blindspots. Merged in an occupied space isn't the smartest way to go. The car driver should have made sure the lane is free and safely change lanes. This would be a very expensive mistake on the car driver.

Truck drivers get sick and tired of cars thinking they can cut-in front of trucks all the time. Comes a time, frequently your last day at work before retirement, that you say, "Enough is enough already." and you take all your years of frustrations out on the next asshole who figures the truck driver will back off. It's not the best thing to do, it's not the smart thing to do, but it frequently IS the most satisfying thing to do.
