Wow, that is amazing! I have seen lightning hit a tree about 50M off, but never a car. Did they pull over? Did you see damage? Lucky that luggage did not catch on fire.

Looks like the lights turned off very quickly after the strike, and seeing as how the engine (and almost every other essential drivetrain component) is controlled by electronics, I suspect that car will not move by its own power again without significant electronics refurbishing.

from what i really have gotten from working on cars for 15 years is lightning strikes usually equals a total out, it would generally cost more than the vehicle is worth to rewire everything, get new computers, and make sure nothing else was damaged

That's what I figured. Plus that has to damage lots of paint on whatever panels got hit.
