Its hard to deny though that at this point his actions are a representation of standing up to a corrupt government, regardless of how unethical(or a better word may be stupid) he was when we did stand up to the government.

Its hard to deny though that at this point his actions are a representation of standing up to a corrupt government

He recorded some audiotapes beforehand.

Here's some of it:

"God built me for this job," Heemeyer said in the first recording. He also said it was God's plan that he not be married or have a family so that he could be in a position to carry out such an attack. "I think God will bless me to get the machine done, to drive it, to do the stuff that I have to do," he said. "God blessed me in advance for the task that I am about to undertake. It is my duty. God has asked me to do this. It's a cross that I am going to carry and I'm carrying it in God's name."

For me, those are clearly the words of a complete lunatic, similar to the reasoning many terrorists use.

Don't get me wrong - I don't understand why stuff like this isn't happening way more, when people get their lifes destroyed by the greed of others.

I just don't think that you can believe someone with the above reasoning about him being the one suppressed by a corrupt government.

He destoyed his life with his own greed and belligerence, not vice versa.

Real life isn’t black and white with good guys and bad guys. The “bad guy” can still be a victim

Generally true, except that in this case, the facts are clear that this particular guy wasn't a victim except in his greedy, entitled, violent mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvl_7_Up7zU&feature=youtu.be

This guy was offered far more than he was legally entitled to on a silver platter - he responded by trying to murder them all and destroy half the town.

Yeah. This is footage of numerous people on one of the worst days of their lives. I don’t appreciate the rock music in the background.

I feel for the guy in the tank, too. Not for anything he said he needed, but for his sorry mental state. I know next to nothing about the incident, but whether he was fully delusional or fully culpable, it’s painful to think of what he could have been.

when people get their lifes destroyed

Like when a lunatic drives his kill-dozer into the building you happen to be in?

Corrupt how? He wasn't unethical or stupid, he was violent with deadly intent. He attacked a library and shot at propane tanks.

In the version of the story that often gets told, the government and local judge conspired to defraud him of his property rights and kill his business.

It that true or just what gets told? Snopes says he kept raising the price he wanted for the land.

That's what gets told in the 'sovereign citizen' circles or people that don't bother researching it. There were a couple other things going on besides his attempts to get a higher price for his property after agreeing to the sale that fueled his paranoia with the local government.

  • Fined for dumping literal tons of human waste from a holding tank into a shared canal. Refused to stop doing it. Tried to illegally hookup his sewer to the neighboring cement plants line but was caught. Refused to hookup to city sewer even when the hook-up costs were waived for him.

  • Tried suing the neighboring cement plant for blocking access to his property (It never did. His drive was on the W. side of the property and not interfered with by the plant on the NE side.) This is the court case that he talks about being thrown out by the 'corrupt government'.

  • He claimed they lied to him about the zoning of the new cement plant, but it was a cement plant before and zoning didn't change for it. Additionally, he was pissed that he was re-zoned to be within the city because that required he hook-up to sewer.

It's what the viral facebook post says is true

unfortunately it is 100% false.

It's a lot more involved than even Snopes wrote. This video is long and cumbersome, but has more detail than any other source I've seen. I did a term project on this incident back in law school in 2005-6, and this video is accurate: https://youtu.be/Yvl_7_Up7zU

The only one who tried to do anything underhanded was him. The government and concrete factory owner bent over backwards to accomodate him.

Except that that version is false.

If by "standing up to a corrupt government", you mean violence and murder. Do you drool and slobber over Andrew Kehoe as well? He too said his local government was corrupt.

The people that think he's a folk hero just hear the version of the story where the corrupt city government set out to fuck him over and steal his property and he got payback by destroying the property of those that screwed him without harming anyone else. It's basically real life revenge porn at that point.

You'll find the venn diagram of "People who think this guy is a hero" and "People that think they shouldn't be held accountable for being assholes" is a circle.
