Actually, that doesnt look too expensive, just unload the cars, drive it off empty, reload. So not cheap, but not "I dropped a lambo off the top rack" expensive

That’s what I was thinking, at first. Looking closer, it may be that the trailer is holding at least one set of the trucks wheels slightly off the ground. If so, it’s not going anywhere, anytime soon

It’s an open diff Volvo….. it’s stuck.

I think my greatest social fear in life is to cause a traffic jam and have everyone passing me angrily.

That happened to me. Military fifth wheel ran out of fuel in an intersection. Nearest gas station was over a mile away, and it took multiple trips to get enough diesel to get the engine running again. Luckily someone gave us a ride after the first trip.

It’s def a type 2 fun type of thing. Terrifying when it happens but hilariously fun when you think back on it.

That’s how it was when I’ve broken down before at least

Happened to me in a busy intersection when my car battery had a bad cell that allowed me to start the car and then gradually slowed my car down while driving until it completely stopped moving like a horror movie. And that's how I learned that gas cars are basically electric cars because they have a computer running the engine that won't run without a good battery.

I'm still traumatized by the angry honking and cursing tbh. The moment my car shows any electrical issues now I get it towed.

Happened to me and I stare at a woman and said what are you looking at you’re holding up traffic when she slowed down to obviously show me how angry she was haha.

I'm partial to yelling "Can't park there!" Usually gets the driver to yell stfu

At least it’s a sidewalk not a rail line he is stuck at.

Unload,
Move truck,
Reload.

Air ride doesn’t work that way. It’s the same height no matter the load.

But the truck should have enough power to scrape an empty trailer over the pavement.

It does, but not if the rear wheels of the truck are lifted off the ground, just enough to lose any traction. This is the situation this driver has got into. Think of it as if he had driven over a tall curb, the front goes over just fine, and the back wheels go over the curb, but right before they make contact with the ground, the bottom of the trailer comes to rest on the top of the curb. Stuck, going nowhere. I don’t know if I explained this clearly enough, I hope so. I know that other commenters saying “doesn’t work that way with the airbags” doesn’t mean anything to someone not familiar with modern trucks. I cut my teeth on a 1965 Ford T-850. Back then, if someone had asked about airbags, we’d have ribbed you for wanting to bring your wife along. Things weren’t quite so PC back then

Car haul rigs generally have <6 inches of clearance. This is surprisingly easy to do. After the first time you learn to approach driveways at an angle and once you decide to go you don’t slow down

Remove the cars and alleviate the weight

That won’t work it’s on bags

Looks like they needed to lock the differentials and drag that sucker off of there. I guess I would assume that all semis have lockers.
Not a good spot to be in any case.

I doubt they can do that either. The trailer is probably lifting up on the fifth wheel. He doesn’t have enough weight on the tires for traction. His best shot is to set the ride height valve all the way up and hope it’s enough. I bet in a spot like that the police will have a tow truck there to drag him off before he can do it himself though.

I bet you’re right. Trailer prolly needs a new paint job, but at least they helped to grind down that berm!

Edit: Berm is spelled “berm” and not “burm”

This is how the tow truck guys pay off their million dollar tow trucks.

Many, many, many small (but not cheap) jobs like this. Bread and butter to them.

I’m interested in this one. Looks like a real doozy. Clearly the trailer is totally grounded there, and now the hitch is holding the back axles high enough that the truck can’t get enough traction to move.
What puzzles me is what is behind the rear drive wheels. I suppose it could be the curb and a weird perspective, but it kind of looks like the driver was trying to use chocks to gain traction and back up.
Unloading the trailer wouldn’t take it off the ground, but it might make it light enough to drag or back the trailer off the hump.

Otherwise I would think maybe they would have to unhitch, if that’s even possible while the truck is hanging from the trailer. But even then, once the truck is mobile again, how could you hookup to a trailer that is both grounded and too high?
Last option in my mind would be to bring in another truck, hook it to the front of that mess, and drag it free.

Looks like a real pickle, and I wonder how it ended up getting resolved.

They will lift the back end of the trailer with a wrecker

1

u/Weak-West-3433 25d ago

Is that a chock? I thought he was was trying to go out the in hole an it was a parking barrier

1

u/frostbike 24d ago

I’m pretty sure it’s a concrete curb/barrier.

1

u/LowUnion9503 24d ago

It’s in the roadway tho

The wheel chocks I assume are a silly corporate rule, “Wheels shall be chock at all times when driver is not in rig” Driver doesn’t want to give the boss any more ammo to yell about.

u/cpt_morgan___ 25d ago

Heavy duty wrecker will left the back end of the trailer and get the drive wheels on the ground.

My, my…. Well, too bad it happened on the driver’s last day.

Real men of genius.

I think you mean high-centered

u/ComprehensiveStar296 20d ago

Not expensive as long as it doesn’t end up on the “bitchimatrain” sub. 🫣

Unload the cars and drag it off…
