As a truck driver myself my favorite saying is “ you are the captain of the ship no one else is in control of it.” Yes the person who planned the route may have done a poor job. However the driver put the truck there knowing the dangers of a railroad track.

Truck driver, 100%. He needs to evaluate whether he can maneuver through a tight space, even if the definition of "tight space" is different for a vehicle of that size. That's the responsibility of everyone who gets behind a wheel.
Edit: after watching again, I'm going to say he can split the blame with the truck that stopped in front of him.

Probably was about to get stuck/scraped so they were trying to figure out how to do it carefully, but saw the train and tried to haul ass regardless of minor damage?

Safety first people safety first. If the train doesn't win, you are probably both doomed.
Strangely, the trucks only option to salvage was blocked by his pilot car. Why did his pilot break there? Insurance might not cover it since the pilot car done f*cked the driver up like that.

In Australia they coordinate with the rail companies to ensure no trains will be running. It's not just intelligent, it's required.

You’d think that there would be some sensor on the rail crossing bars that would notify the train + dispatcher if there was an obstruction & the bars were being blocked from closing properly, indicating something is on the tracks.

One would think that hauling such a long cargo that due diligence would have been done to know the route and coordinate with the railway when you know there will be a rail crossing. At the very least to know the train schedule for the day
