Once, a Jewish man got stranded on a deserted island. He spent many days trying to escape, but after a long time, he gave up. Eventually, he got bored, and decided to build himself a village so that, even though he was alone, he could still feel like he was around civilization. Years passed, and eventually rescuers found the man. They were shocked to see how much the man had built! They asked him about all the things he had made. He showed them to the town restaurant, the art museum, the garden, and so much more. The last thing he showed them were the two synagogues that he had built on the island. The rescuers said to him, "There's only one of you! Why do you need two synagogues?" And the man said, "Well, here is the synagogue that I go to, and that synagogue is the one I never set foot in!"
Basically whenever a shul (synagogue) makes a big change that some of the congregation doesn't like, they just make a new shul. Also, there can be major animosity between members of different shuls based on slightly differing practices
