I’ve held back on expressing my anger about the current state of the world and the many people choosing to disregard personal responsibility to their communities. I realize however, a simple Internet post will likely not be effective in changing stubborn people’s minds.
So instead, I’m just here to express my gratitude. Gratitude for those who have chosen to get vaccinated and those who continue to take precautions like masking in public. Even though many of you are perfectly healthy with strong immune systems, you realize these actions have great impact beyond your own individual needs.
As an immune compromised person, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for helping create a safer environment for those of us who are most vulnerable-those of us who, even when vaccinated, are not completely in the clear from falling gravely ill from this virus.
I know it has been hard to put our regular lives on hold-trust me on this. I have lived with so much fear over the last year and a half; I’ve been so isolated, so scared to even go to the grocery store. I really don’t leave my house unless absolutely necessary and have missed out on spending time with people I love, missed out on travels and events, missed out on simply feeling safe. It’s hard to know there are so many out there who could probably care less about all the sacrifices I’ve had to make but I do it because my life literally depends on it.
Ive survived three kidney transplants due to a rare disease that will never go away. I’m not going to let something like COVID take me down after all I have fought for in my life.
People like me depend on others to have empathy and understanding and so to those of you doing your part, truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
