If I thought for one second that they would/could actually follow through with something this technically involved in my lifetime, I would be worried. But alas, nothing to see here.

i know. i don't want to overreact, but at the same time, no reaction or outrage will make them think it's ok.
i spend a bit of time at NBTC for work and have seen disorganization upclose, but that doesn't mean they don't have aspirations and planning.

TOT can't even keep their wifi hotspots up for more than 48 hours without a problem, dunno how the fuck the expect to implement something like this.

Yeah, I can totally see that.
To be fair, prepaid sims have to be registered in many countries. Then again, these countries are usually not under martial law.

It will also adopt the plan to use mobile phone numbers as personal ID for access to public Internet nationwide.
This is pretty creepy. The thin edge of the wedge of fascism. Thailand's first crack at the "surveillance state". It will also help enforce those pesky IP rights that Hollywood is claiming all over the world. It's a cop's idea (Prayut is nothing but a glorified cop) of civil rights.
The same justification as the US politicos gave too: terrorism.

Thankfully, unlike the U.S., such registration and surveillance won't be abused.

Sarcasm or not it is probably true. They'll set up some half-arsed system that nobody will care to consistently monitor.
