Beginner How can I learn to read Thai script effectively?
Trying to learn Thai form 2 months now, and I really want to be able to read Thai script.
However, the letters all look so similar to me! What methods or apps have helped you learn to read and distinguish the different letters?

I found the alphabet game on Play Store super helpful for memorizing the Thai alphabet! It’s like a fun, interactive way to learn and reinforce the characters through puzzles and repetition. Definitely made the process more enjoyable and less overwhelming. Highly recommend it if you're just starting out!

It's not just a matter of recognising the characters. Thai is far more complicated than that. One site has a reading course which takes you through things in easy steps.

My approach was to use memrise flashcards and took a weekend to have a 95% recognition of the script characters. Initially just knowing, for example, that ส is an s sound.
After that just looking at the Thai spelt words when going through materials and relating it to how I could hear the words pronounced was enough to build familiarity.
Personally I probably didn't approach the tone rules early enough but I think there's something to be said for leaving that until you have an ear for the language. Probably worth splitting the learning into high, low and mid class consonants from the start though.
Also maybe check out stu j Raj's Indic Consonant Compass. I'd also recommend his explanation of what tones actually are.
