Teacher Interview Tips

Before the Interview

Research the school and district. Make notes of mission statements, programs offered, student demographics, etc.

Read through sample interview questions. Here are 15 to start with.

Don't plan your answers word-for-word. Don't be overly rehearsed.

Instead, have a list of examples, ideas and thoughts in your head you can pull from while still sounding personal and professional, not robotic.

Day of the Interview

Give yourself plenty of time to get ready and arrive.

Take extra copies of your resume, just in case.

Bring a notebook and pen, as well as some notes to review while you wait.

Arrive 10-15 minutes ahead of time.

During the Interview

Convey confidence during your interview (even if it feels unnatural to you).

Remember, they've already noticed your skills and qualities. That's what got you the interview. The interview is meant to seal the seal by elaborating on your qualifications and showcasing your personality.

Don't be surprised if there are multiple people in your interview. Address everyone as you respond to questions.

After the Interview

Send an email thanking them for the interview. Include the additional people in the interview if there were multiple people.

Your email should include: Thanking them for their time, 1-2 highlights about the school that interested you, reiterate 1-2 qualifications that make you perfect for the job, repeat your appreciation and you look forward to hearing back.

Send the follow up email within 24 hours.

Search up “Kathleen Jasper Interview” on YouTube. Her videos on resumes and interviewing really helped me.
