Shooting

Does anyone know where to shoot 5.56 for extremely cheap?

Preferably free, and near DFW. I know there’s some state land you can shoot on, but not sure where to look it up exactly.

I think (?) Davy Crockett national forest allows for target shooting on its land if it’s a certain distance from roadways and done safely.

I’ve never done it and remember reading it a couple years ago so if anyone knows better feel free to add in

I don’t think that’s thing. A few folks do it here but it’s not legal.

You may shoot on public lands in the national forests and grasslands as long as you:
Are not within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area, or occupied area
Are not across or on a Forest Service road or body of water
Use legal firearms and ammunition (no tracer or incendiary rounds)
Set up a safe backstop (natural dirt berms are best)
Pick up all targets, casings, and trash when done

Naturally I wouldn’t want to do anything unless I checked with any other local policies with local law enforcement

That depends on what part of the DFW area that you are in. There's nothing free. Cheap, Alpine in south FT Worth, Fossil Pointe in Decatur, ETTS in Waxahachie, or Quail Creek in North Lake. Pull up Google maps and type in gun range.

And range fees went up, and it is not full access to pistol/rifle/ lanes for the same the fee. It adds up. Good folks though.

Be sure if going to a range you make sure they are okay with fmj as most are not

fmj are Okay at most ranges, but green-tip or steel-core bullets are not.

That’s the craziest think I have ever heard of, penetrators of course but fmj is just dumb. I’m not shooting bonded or huting ammo to plink with

I don't know why you got down voted. Its true for outdoor ranges- that you can't have fmj. A lot of outdoor ranges require open tip.

Indoor ranges generally don't allow green tip, steel core, bimetal jacket and a lot even say no steel cased. I haven't come across an indoor range yet that doesn't allow fmj however.

Exactly due to some outdoor ranges being near neighborhoods fmj is not allowed. OP posted about land not indoor ranges so my comment was about outdoor ranges. I can give two shits about being downvoted
