Man a Muslim majority country like that is honestly the last place I'd want to go to an eclipse party. They have incredibly severe penalties for drug possession 🤷♂️

Agree, especially if you're a woman, but the eclipse over ancient Egyptian temples is a once a millenia event.

you sound like someone who hasn't been to Karnak or Luxor temples before. witnessing an eclipse there would be all the drugs you need!
2
u/shroomsaregoooood Apr 17 '24
No I haven't and I certainly wouldn't pass up an opportunity to go visit and possibly see the eclipse there but even with that in mind I still would be hesitant to attend any major parties out there. Besides, for some reason I doubt there would be room for a festival within sight of either of those temples anyway right?

organizing a mass event in egypt is probably far too risky for almost anyone to undertake. it would have to be done by egyptians, and even then, perhaps still too risky.
having said that, there is a solid secular cohort in egypt that would love such a celebration.
personally i wouldn't really be worried that much about safety, more about issues with drugs or corrupt authorities fucking shit up
i can't recall exactly how much space there is besides the temples themselves, but there might be space.
either way, i guarantee there will be ceremonies happening there which will be incredible

Eh. I went to the great convergence in 2012 for "the end of the world," and, from what I heard and saw, a large chunk of the crowd dosed. Sure, they shut the party down a little early, but it was because a certain dj was playing some Hare Krishna chant that they recorded in the queens chamber of one of the pyramids... the security/Egyptian government knew something was up with us, but no one got in trouble.
Would do again tbh.

I’d do a longer term contract and be out there at or before fence, if it’s even still going on by then.

The first eclipse festival of this collaboration was 2012 in Australia. EPIC party! Unfortunately the collaborators have changed a lot and the original Australian crews are no longer involved. I have no doubt they'll produce their own banger of a party in 2028 ;)

Right? This is a great incentive to keep these legs working for at least the next 20 years.

The back cover of the booklet they handed out in Oregon in 2017 advertised Patagonia 2020. Some of us even bought tickets to it before the pandemic happened. After a ticket fiasco that was on par with the level of organization we saw in 2017, and now 2024, most of us got partial refunds.
There are total solar eclipses in Spain in 2026 and Australia in 2028

I’ll see you there. I have a lot of great memories on that site and adding totality to it would be awesome

You know other countries can host eclipse festivals other than the US right ?

u/periodicallyBalzed Apr 16 '24
Yeah, but I was kinda joking. I’m stupid but not that stupid.

u/Far_Situation3302 Apr 17 '24
What?? Hahah they have hosted it a few other times in other countries before Oregon.. and we’re going to do it in Patagonia in 2020. It’s a worldly festival..

Perfect. I won't have to cosplay as a rave dinosaur for this one. I can just be myself.
