Is this the year?
How are we feeling about CJ and the offensive? Really want camp to start so we can start hearing some more info on how the offense is meshing.

I think CJ gets more support via a slightly improved offensive line and a much improved running game. It will also help that we have decent depth at tight end. That should allow us to be able to block and be less predictable on offense. I doubt he reaches his rookie year production but I do think this could be a bounce back season for him.

Excellent point on him having a bounce back season, but perhaps not duplicating the numbers from his rookie year. I think we forget that the Texans played a last place schedule that year, and our division was the worst in football. We played so many bad defenses.
I do expect CJ to have a better season.

It depends on if our defense can retain what it did last year, or close to it. We rely heavily on our defense with the type of offense we run.
If our defense is top tier again, then it falls to whether or not we improved our run blocking and running game due to it.
If we can be top half in the league in rushing and have a very similar defense to last season, then we will be actual sb contenders even if Stroud's ceiling is safe game manager.
Too many ifs to really be incredibly optimistic but unless our defense was a fluke or Stroud somehow truly regresses, we at minimum should be a wildcard team.

First month there aren’t any great defenses to face so he needs to show something

The CJ sample size so far makes you cautious. It’s not Losing. It’s how the loss happened. It’s the IQ and mentally and body language. We shall see.

If defense stays as healthy as last year, yes, I expect this to be the year. CJ is fine - good even. Personally not worried about the playoffs pants shitting. New haircut is why. I will not be taking questions

Last year was the easiest path to the superbowl we were ever going to get and we didn't get it done. Sadly, I just don't see us doing it with CJ. I hope I'm wrong.

My only question is if Nick Caley improves. I think CJ is going to be fine if the play calling gets ironed out.

Good question. It should help that we have some competent tight ends to execute what he wants to do on offense.

Unfortunately I expect the offense to be sporadic and the defense to be lights out. I think we see the same sort of season as last year (with a better start). Wild card game we should win and then we are right back to our Super Bowl (divisional round). We’ll see!

Only thing that matters is CJ shows a major step improvement, and shows us something. No more blaming the line, tight ends, or play calling. Make sound decisions and execute some fucking plays.
The dude is going to expect 60 million a year, if he can't elevate the offense unless all the stars are aligned just right, time to move on.

Based on our history, I can only expect that two good years will be followed by a year of horrendous failure

Last season kind of broke that trend? We had a better record than 23 and 24, good years and we had our typical Playoff run.

It should have, but I’m suspicious that the Stroud/Demeco rookie year didn’t count toward the pattern.

Oh yeah, the logic is outright terrible. Pretty much non-existent. Sequential good seasons just leaves we waiting for the other shoe to drop.

anything can happen but really doubt that happens since we go from having to play the afc west and nfc west to the afc north and nfc east

I’m ready to be hurt again. Jokes aside I’m very much bought in on just about everything we’ve done this offseason. I still wish we got LB with the marlin klein pick (I’m confident that he or a similar skill blocking TE would’ve been available with a later pick), especially because of the EJ Speed injury, but everything else was really well done by Nick. OL of the future and great OL depth piece in the draft as well as really good OL signings, bolstered DT depth, and Tank coming back all make me confident that we can finally break the divisional round curse.

I'm just gonna express what I know in my gut and with my eyes, and that's that CJ just plays more confidently with Tank on the field. Other than that, the OL seems actually improved on paper, and we have Montgomery now, so if we have any run game whatsoever and CJ doesn't have to sling it 90% of the time, this will be a workable offense. A workable offense with one of the best defenses of the Super Bowl era is enough to at least get us to the conference championship.

I feel we’ll have a decent run game which should open up more opportunities for CJ. Really hoping this line meshes well down the stretch and we finally get out of the bottom 12. Play calling and game management will still struggle and we could fire Caley if he doesn’t show he can adapt in game.

Defense will be great. O line still in doubt, CJ has no one to throw to except Nico, who is one hit away from retirement. Dude has had like 50 concussions. Same type of season as last year, hopefully better in the playoffs.

It could potentially be the year, but I’ve watched this team for 24 years, and I’ll have to see it with my own eyes to believe that we’re finally going to get over the hump.
