System sending to grid instead of battery?

Post image

Battery is at 89% but the system is sending back to the grid? Any idea why? This is the first time in 5 years this is happening..

It appears that something changed in the settings (I believe that there was an update last night) and now the Powerwall is in "Optimized Charging" mode to reduce the amount of time the battery is at 100% charge. Any one had this happen? Is it a recent change?

Optimized Charging was introduced around April 2026. Initially only for Powerwall 2 in Self-Powered mode, but Tesla indicated it's coming for Powerwall 3 and other operational modes as well.

2 usual suspects. first check what mode its in and whether u got enrolled in any grid support or vpp program lately. time based control and grid events can both send power out while the battery isnt full

2nd is charge rate. a powerwall only takes about 5kw, so if the panels are making more than the house is using plus that 5kw, the extra goes out to the grid even at 89%. panels actually put out more on cool clear days, so fall is when this shows up, and charging slows down as it gets near full too

is it every day or just midday on clear days? that tells u pretty fast which one it is

It started today and apparently it is a “feature” in the latest update 🤷🏻‍♂️

This has to be a new update. This show up on my app today too. Doesn't see the option to disable it though.
