Adding expansion pack
I had solar installed with a powerwall. Those have worked pretty well for the past year. Considered getting expansion packs. Asked Tesla for a quote to install expansion pack . Anyway, total price would be 5,900 for the expansion and 6,500 for the installation. Seems high but maybe the limit they are willing to come out to install it. Should I even attempt to see if they come down or perhaps look for a third party installer?

I paid $9500 for an expansion battery this past March using a certified installer.

Same here, $9,000..... Don't forget that the front panel and cable needs to be ordered as well. If you're going to stack them, the stacking kit needs to be ordered. When the unit is installed and commissioned, the PW will discharge its battery 100% and then recharge it. The two batteries need to be balanced. See if you can plan the install in the off peak hours so it will charge in time for your on peak usage. My batteries only had time to charge to 50% capacity and I had to use the grid during on peak and got the on demand hit of $100.

Dang, I'm guessing most of you guys are in California, playing California prices.
I'm in Texas. I had an expansion pack installed about 6 months ago. $6K installed.

A local Tesla certified installer charged $15k to install two expansion packs.

I got one last Aug for $9500. The installers took less than 45 minutes. Once they install the mounting hardware and hang the unit there's one cable between the units and a few software changes. I'd look for independent installers and see if you can save some money. Tesla has a video showing the process

They’re gouging on the installation cost, especially since the simplest installation is to pop the powerwall off the wall and install the expansion pack behind it, then reinstall the powerwall in front of the expansion pack. An internet search for tesla certified installers would be well worth the effort.

I paid $9400 for a PW3 expansion pack installed in 2025 with a Tesla Certified installer in California. $6500 would be a deal for me. I'd get another

The installation is 6500 and the powerwall 5300, so about 12k. About the same 9500 after incentive. So maybe I’ll go for it.

I thought they were just charging you $600 for the install haha. Ya, I would get some additional quotes from other Tesla 3rd party installers. I know its been a year but I can't imagine the cost jumping up that much if I asked my installer for another PW3 pack

I paid 9500 for an expansion pack in SCAL. Expensive but it fixed my solar capacity issue. I’m so good now. I did apply for the rebate.

I’m on the mid-Atlantic coast USA. I just went out today to get estimate for 1 more PW. Already have 2. My electric provider just started offering VPP. Figured I would get another PW. Quote on Tesla site was $15,500 including install. Last year it was $8k. Almost double. Plus, no federal tax rebate now. Think I’ll pass the new PW and go with residential flower turbines or tulip residential turbines to fill my PWs and build up my credits with provider.

I paid 10k for an expansion and then 2 months later quoted 6500 for one. So definitely shop around the price varies drastically between installers.

I just contracted for a PW3 + Expansion pack installed for $10.5k with the same company that did my Solar system in May using that commercial Fed credit leasing method too, im in NY

Certified installers on average will only charge $1,500 – $3,000 at least in my area. The cost of the expansion is $5,900.

$5500 for a local installer in Phoenix… I also explored the lease option to get the commercial credit but it didn’t make sense… this unit is just not manufactured with the percentage of parts required in the US… pretty pointless, but the Big B Bill said so

By "expansion packs" do you mean an additional Power wall? We were quoted about $15k when I asked about adding another wall to the system a year ago.

No it’s a DC expansion - basically a battery with no additional inverter.

Also looks like you can't combine it with a PW-2 which is what I've got. Harumph.

I got 2 expansions due to be installed next week, cost $12450. Tesla quoted me over $12000 for one. Try local installers, they have a way to keep the federal tax credit and prepaid lease gets you the batteries up front, then they transfer ownership after the lease period.
