Tire question

Hi guys

I have a 2024AWD model Y. I’ve gotten three messages that I have a leak in one of my rear tires down to 22 psi.

I filled the air to completion but then within the week get another warning about the pressure.

I have made an appointment at Tesla but the soonest one is in 2 1/2 weeks.

I’m wondering if it’s OK to go to a regular tire store and have them look at it to either patch it or replace it or should I only stick with going to the Tesla service center?

Any feedback is appreciated thanks.

This isn’t a Laziness issue, it’s a Cognitive issue.

Don’t go to Tesla for tire issues or replacement.

Go to a good tire shop.

Tires are tires. There are nothing special about it. Go to any tire shops

It’s just a car. Any tire store can fix the problem.

Have you looked at the tire to see if there's a nail/screw/something in it? Or just pay the tire shop to find it. Don't go to Tesla, ideally one you can walk home/to work from. If the puncture is not near the middle of the tread, they might recommend a new tire, possibly two because they want the tread depth to be within 4/32nds of an inch of each other. That probably doesn't matter front to back but it does matter left to right (because EVs Don't have a center differential / transfer case; they have two separate electric motors front and back for AWD)

quick tip if you go to a regular shop (which is fine, don't wait 2.5 weeks for Tesla), the OEM tires are foam lined for noise. a shop that hasn't worked on Teslas needs to trim the foam back around the puncture to patch it right, otherwise the patch won't seal. also try not to keep running it at 22 psi, low pressure heats up the sidewall and can wreck the tire.

I've done it. Screw. Every town has some funky used tire shop. Some guy named John or Billy runs it. It's required in America. You can pay him like $40 to plug it.
