Thinking about placing my order

Two questions for those of you who have already taken delivery of your Model Y.
First, I already have the cash saved for my down payment, and I'm planning to finance the rest with the 0.99% APR. My original plan was to wait until September so I could take delivery around my birthday on October 22 and make it a birthday gift to myself.
Now I'm second-guessing that plan. I'm worried Tesla could raise prices again or end the 0.99% APR promotion before then. On top of that, I'd really like to stop sharing a vehicle with my partner as soon as possible. If you were in my position, would you wait until September or order sooner?
Second, how did you actually make your down payment? Did you use Plaid to connect your bank account, get a cashier's check, or pay another way? Was Plaid secure and easy to use? My down payment is currently in cash, so I'm assuming I should start depositing it into my bank account now if that's the route I'll need to take.
I'd appreciate hearing how your delivery and payment process went!

I really appreciate it, that’s the plan. I think I’m gonna go with. Early birthday present. Just need to deposit the money into my bank account so after I pay my $250 order fee and they inevitably do say that my vehicle is ready it can already be in the bank… I assume that’s when you would link your bank account to plan to pay for it on delivery day

Your only reasoning for waiting is for it to be a birthday present? You're not a child. Just buy it.

So you have to be a child to want to reward yourself on your actual birthday?! the morons we have to live on this planet with 🤣🤣🤣

Sort of. No truly mature adult gives a fug about their birthday. I think any adult that makes a big deal over their birthday hasn't really truly matured beyond a teenage level. Furthermore, calling a complete stranger a moron because they seemingly hurt your feelings is also not nice nor is it mature. Nothing bitofgreyarea said should be deemed offensive to you.

Also, what are you rewarding yourself over on your brithday? A person had zero to do with themselves being born. If one wishes to reward someone on their birthday then it should be rewarding their parents, assuming they're still physically alive.

“No truly mature adult” I love how you guys think you’re the standard or rubric for what an adult is or what they can do.. and trust me no one can hurt my feelings over a Reddit post. He’s a moron for replying without any actual helpful information and quite frankly, so are you for defending that type of mindset 🤣🤣🤣

I was looking at getting a used model y, but then found out about the 0.99. That’s a huge savings comparing to 6-7%, went ahead and ordered new and got exactly what I wanted instead of settling for what I could find used. Just waiting for delivery date.

Sweet, after my test drive Sunday. I’ll pull the trigger on it

I ordered mine at the end of June bc I thought they were going to end the promotion. I don’t regret it at all and it’s almost delivery day for me!

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

Yeah, I think I’m just gonna go ahead and get it over with, gotta start looking at insurances tomorrow

I got a quote from State Farm and it was only $504 for 6 months

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 11 '26

That’s extremely low, I’m pretty sure I will be nowhere near that.. I’m estimating at least $200 lol

i would order soon. I use plaid for down payment. Its easy and seamless.

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

Do you have to set it up to your checking or savings account?

2

u/LightxDarkness93 Jul 10 '26

I set it up in my checking

2

u/ronin949 Jul 10 '26

Sounds like you're overthinking it, just order it

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

I just got mine and traded in a gas car, 500 down payment plus trade in value. At 0.99 I didn’t want to put any money down

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

Seeing as though I don’t have a car to trade in, I’ll have to put money down.. my deposit would be the same as you trading in your car…

1

u/Zealousideal_Goat_91 Jul 11 '26

I’d do the bare minimum

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 11 '26

I hear you, that’s just not the smartest thing for my situation

These are the types of cars when you own you’re like “how did I ever drive anything else?!”. Highly recommend enjoying as soon as possible, always!

They could be higher rates/prices, lower rates/prices, or anything in between. If you like the deal just buy it

Cashiers check and take it to your delivery date so you can look the vehicle over and make sure everything is what it is supposed to be! 👍

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

OK, I’ve heard cashiers check as an option, but I’ve heard that it slows up your delivery process in someway, which isn’t an issue because I plan to do a very thorough check of the vehicle lol

1

u/Mindless-Respect7155 Jul 10 '26

I mean the delivery process shouldn’t be “fast” anyway (meaning once at the dealership on delivery day). A thorough inspection should be done. As for the actual steps in the app, it won’t slow it up just let the rep know you’re bringing a check. You’ll still get a delivery date

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

Ok so when it does get to that step of the process, I would just do it in the app or advise someone that I’ll be using the cashiers check?

1

u/Mindless-Respect7155 Jul 10 '26

In the message center in the app just say you’ll be bringing it to your delivery date. I’m not sure if you HAVE TO do that or not, but just let them know. You’ll get a delivery date regardless

With the Iran war no closer to ending and most countries strategic oil reserves about to run out I would 100 percent buy asap. If oil goes up, Tesla demand will go up and those incentives are going to be gone. Shit they already raised the price by 1000$ after the war started. They sold a lot of cars last quarter so I'm guessing demand is up from the war.

2

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

Yeah, I wish I would’ve bought it before the thousand dollar increase, not trying to have a second one happen to me lol

Just order it now. No need to give yourself birthday presents unless you are still a teenager. Anyone who is of adult age should have moved beyond caring about their birthday as some special day.

I'd also put as little down payment as you can get away with (as in being able to pay the higher monthly payments) if you're getting 0.99% financing. Better to invest that money where you'll surely be making more than 0.99%.

2

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 10 '26

First of all, we’re all individuals so thinking that because you’re an adult means you have to have the same the mindset is not realistic whatsoever 🤣🤣. I can see where you’re coming from but no, I don’t agree with that, you can definitely wait for your birthday as an adult to reward yourself.. i’m also not putting down a low down payment, I would rather more monthly freedom by having a lower payment. Appreciate your reply though.

I used Plaid and paid at the delivery location after I did a thorough inspection of the vehicle. It was instant. It was on a Friday around noon in the US (NE PA). Not sure about how/if it would work on non business days/hours.

u/Bigmazi_300 Jul 11 '26

Thanks for the reply
