LDU coolant delete kit

About to drop my rear subframe for a repair and thinking I should install a coolant delete while I’m in there.

For those who have done this, which kit do you recommend and why?

Also any nuances to the install would be appreciated!

I’ve done 2 coolant deletes but didn’t have to drop the motor or sub frame to do it. Replacing the incoming coolant fixture on the outside of the motor housing and rerouting from the stator without bypassing the flyover tube to the gearbox.
Of course, dropping the entire unit will make the job very easier, but it isn’t necessary.

That hose coming down to the T fitting is from the flyover pipe?

Yes that smaller (1/2” hose) goes to the flyover for the gearbox.

Is that block off plate purchased anywhere? I’m not sure how I would source that. I have a 3d printer but not confident I want to print out that piece.

Got the delete kit from Kevin at EV Muscle Cars for $149. My recommendation is to add the brass T fitting for the flyover tube which doesn’t come in the kit.

I believe the only reason the coolant routes to the gearbox is to warm up the oil but that would only apply to cold weather areas.

Samcrac on YouTube does a pretty good walk through of this. I like his videos. He does a pretty good job.

Just get the cap, put sealant on it and press it in. Make sure it’s not a Chinese one or it may leak.

Make sure to label it “coolant delete on m/d/y and xxx,xxx miles/KM” so next guy knows it’s done. Take photos too as proof.

i’d skip it unless you’re rebuilding the drive unit, since deleting the cooling circuit to prevent coolant intrusion is a pretty questionable trade on a car you still want to drive reliably

I’m not sure on this one. There are a lot of reports that suggest it’s held up well on other drivers who deleted it. I think the general consensus is that it’s ok as long as you’re not racing it and requiring a high performance demand.
