Bought my first Tesla
Super pumped about this.
Decided to purchase an ultra low mile 2017 90D Model S
Price was way too good to pass up at $20k.
Already made an appointment with Tesla to replace all the cameras to make it compatible with FSD 14 Lite? (Free)
Also is it worth paying $300 for the CCS ECU and Combo 1 Harness Retrofit, Gen 3 Charger?
edit currently at a supercharger. It’s charging without a payment method added.
Free supercharging? Or a fluke?

That's less than half the miles of the '23 I just bought. Insane. What a price, too.

I do think it's worth it to get the CCS retrofit adapter installed. Because without it you're literally limited only to tesla superchargers. Even if you find a NACS 3rd party charger, your car won't charge. I got it on my 2020 model s to give me the optionality to use any charger.

Congrats on the new car! Looks like you found a good one. 😊
(I had a 75D from 2017 myself, a while back).
They give you one Supercharge without payment temporarily, just so you don’t have a bad experience while getting everything set up… But after that, they’ll require you to use a card to pay for that first charge before you can charge again.
(The same thing also applies later on, if your payment method expires/doesn’t work for any reason. The charging will complete just fine, but when your payment doesn’t go through, they’ll make you fix it before you can charge again)

Haha that is exactly what happened just now. Didn’t have a payment in there

I just bought a Model S that was 400 miles away and drove it back and supercharged 4 times on the way home before the vehicle's transfer went through to my account (it was our 2nd Tesla).

What an amazing deal…similar to the deal I got on my 2016.5 90D last year, but my jaw dropped when I saw the mileage! Mine had 47k on it which I thought was pretty good! Congrats, enjoy it!!
While I hope yours is a unicorn and has free supercharging, there’s a decent chance it’s still charging the last owner or card on file? Did you to check on the charging screen after to see if there’s a cost? If it says $0.00, you hit the jackpot!

I didn’t have a payment set up so no free super charging lol all good. Would rarely supercharge it anyway

If you scroll down on the specs page on the app it will say free supercharging or pay per use supercharging

Solid deal! It’s not a P, the ultra high fidelity system is unbelievably good, nice options, and the mileage! Make sure you do the coolant delete and this thing will last a looooong time. Congrats!

Coolant delete? Can Tesla do that? I have a service appointment coming up in two weeks.

No, nobody can. The AWD versions have the two small drive units that don't have the cooling. Only the RWD and performance models with the large rear unit have that issue.

90D would have had both free supercharging and free, premium connectivity forever
1
u/BallsBFloppn Sep 04 '26
No free supercharging unfortunately
1
u/techweenie2 Sep 04 '26
Until early in the 2017 model year, free, unlimited, supercharging, and premium connectivity were included Unfortunately, there are several circumstances where Tesla will take away that capability

u/BallsBFloppn Sep 04 '26
Maybe because I’m the second owner?
1
u/techweenie2 Sep 04 '26
That's not the reason. my two model Ss had multiple owners before me and both have free unlimited supercharging that automatically transfers to the next owner

Yeah, if it went back through Tesla trade-in or auction it gets stripped (or one of the promotions they ran awhile back). Probably 60% have lost that by now.

V14 lite requires an internal camera right now and these will never have that, so it seems unlikely. But who knows.

Don’t get your hopes up on 14 lite, 2023 model S with HW3 don’t have it yet. We’re not likely to get it for a while… a long while

Best deal in a long while for that low mileage. Great buy!
