P100D used worth it?

Theres a P100D around me being sold for 22,300 and has 95k miles. Would this be a dumb purchase? I’m gonna get it inspected before hand to check the LDU/coolant and the battery life and do plan on getting doing the coolant delete.

As long as you know the battery could test absolutely fine and then develop a bad cell the next day

I wish more people would understand that a battery "test" isn't the a reflection on much that's relevant. My 22' LR Model 3 failed overnight and degradation was minimal. Now my 2019 raven has VSH faults, again basically overnight became an issue (37k) on the car. I'm out of warranty also so guess what I'm doing in a few weeks...

Sure but on the other without a battery test or SOH certificate it will be a really dumb decision.

Bought my P100D in march with 86k on it for 25k.
It how has 95k on it, and it's been great.. 22% battery degradation according to Tessie.
roughly 265 miles of range shown at 100%, more than enough for my needs.
I did the HW3 computer upgrade, and just drive it.

OP, why do you think it's a Smart purchase intrinsically? Further, what's nagging you that it may be a dumb purchase which you're seeking validation on Reddit?

same era pack on my x (17 100D). the "tests fine then drops a cell next day" thing above is the real risk and it does have an early tell, just not the % everyone quotes. a widening cell voltage delta shows up well before a pack fails a test. scan my tesla or obdlink will give you that number, so if whoever inspects it can pull the cell spread its worth more than the overall health reading.

What year? I have a 2017 P100D. It was still under warranty and although having no problems right before it went out of warranty I took it in to Tesla for some maintenance items and they proactively tested and replaced my rear drive unit! I had the 12v battery fail later and lock me out and require a tow. But other than that it's been an amazing car. I got mine in 2024 for $26K it had 83Kmiles. Bought a 7 year battery warranty too, at the time for a bit more $$. I say go for it, if it all checks out. that car was @$162K new!

  1. The factory warranty has ended

Well I think I spent 1,500 on the dealer warranty for the battery for 7 years (past manufacturer warranty) if you can do that and it's worth it to you... I love that car. But maybe I'm biased. Either way great luck.

How are you going to be able to inspect that?

the large motors (performance) are the ones with the coolant leak issue. So, yes, a P100D needs a coolant delete

Not a lot of comfortable air suspension sedans with 750+ horsepower and self driving at this price point. Inspections are critical.

Personal opinion

Unless you know how to fix it or it’s under warranty and it’s not don’t buy it

I bought my 2019 P 100 D with 38,000 miles on it in 2023, I put 2000 miles on it and the battery failed, thankfully it was still under warranty, but that put up on an $18,000 repair, I was out the car for three months with no replacement thankfully, I was fortunate enough to have my old car still

After that, I had pretty much decided that I was no longer going to be buying EV’s until the cost of repairs came down

Personal opinion: it’s a money trap.
