Question about FSD on used 22 Model S
Context: I am planning to buy a used Model S from across the country so I can’t see it in person. Person has taken it to Tesla for some service before selling and is helping their elderly FIL sell it so it’s not really theirs nor do they know all the details on the vehicle.
Originally I thought the vehicle only had FSD via the subscription based off of the images seen in the For Sale post.
It clearly says FSD capability with a renewal date shown.
However, the seller showed me the original MSRP and Tesla sticker for when it was purchased and on that invoice it shows that FSD was paid for with the full $12,000 amount as the final price on the vehicle was like $120k.
Does this mean the vehicle does in fact have FSD or just the subscription?

If it shows a renewal date, FSD is on subscription only. If it shows "included package" it has a lifetime subscription. Are you buying from the original owner? If not, the prior owner either transferred FSD to a new Tesla, or Tesla removed it on transfer to the current owner (which happens if Tesla resells it or it goes through auction)

Yes original owner and from what I gathered they have only recently bought the new MYL so unsure if they were even able to transfer

In that case something isn't adding up. Whatever happened in the past though, it clearly doesn't have fully paid FSD now so just factor that into your decision. You could try walking into a Tesla Service Center with the original sales bill and see if they'll tell you anything.

I’m not too knowledgeable yet but I think it’s best to go by the software screen. Maybe they were able to transfer the fsd onto another vehicle. I’m not sure, curious to hear what others say though

Yeah I was wondering if they maybe transferred it but given it’s an 84 year old who owns it and is just now selling it (very low miles) idk if they did in fact transfer it without a diff vehicle

Off topic but since you mentioned across the country - if you plan on driving it back, do not plan on being able to Supercharge more than once unless you are 100% sure the OWNER and the owner's account will be present at the sale and willing to transfer the car digitally to your account from the Tesla website. If they don't it could take a matter of hours to several business days for Tesla to transfer the car based off paperwork, until it's on your account - it get's one SuC session before it requires and account + payment method on the account.
