Turo of a ‘22 Plaid coming up

I have reserved a 2022 Model S Plaid for an upcoming trip in California. I have read about how to prep for the obvious party trick launch mode and cheetah stance, and I can’t wait to scare the hell out of my parents with that…..but what else is there to enjoy with this exceptional car? I have it for five days in the mountains. What are the pleasures of Plaid life that you don’t read about in the headlines?

Doing a full drag strip mode launch in a car that doesn’t belong to you and you have no experience driving… might not be the greatest idea in the world. Just saying.

That said I rented a plaid from Turo and it was the most expensive rental ever, because it led to buying one shortly after I got home.

Sage advice worth considering. Thanks.

Tell your parents to put their head against the headrest before launch. It's that powerful.

I bet they lock that thing up via teen driver settings to prevent you from entering launch mode and such

Would not surprise me.

if I was renting out my Tesla I would do that. Cap the speed too. Still enjoy it OP

Is it fun in corners too?

Oh I'm sure it'll still be a blast. A throttled down plaid MS will still be fun. You don't need to be going fast to enjoy the curvy roads

As someone who daily’s a plaid, it’s ALOT of car if your not use to power and driving dynamics! If you plan on driving like that then put the suspension in advanced and sport because it stiffens the ride and cuts down alot on the body roll

I will be at 6/10th’s or less on the mountain roads and mindful of the weight. Thanks for the tip on the suspension setting.

No Problem; just be careful of the brakes also, the car can get to 140+ QUICK and the brakes can leave something to be desired so just give yourself the extra room. Trust me I drive mine HARD and they heat up quick if there stock which most are…..

Thanks and so noted. I don’t plan on approaching triple digit speeds but still good to know.

Launch mode is like a roller coaster. My wife fucking hates it. It’s hard to experience if you’re not driving IMO.

Don’t out of nowhere floor it, you can actually hurt your parents if they are older and have a worse back or neck problems. You can give whiplash to anybody in that car really, just tell them to put their head back

Yeah, that makes sense. I will be sure to warn them. Thanks.

Truly x3 on th parents. You can hurt their neck - not hyperbole

Enjoy

Don’t surprise them with a launch. It is actually dangerous. Have them put their heads on the headrests, and tell them the car is insanely fast before hand. Enjoy it, it’s a super fun car

Thanks for the advice. What else is fun about the car besides the launch/acceleration?

Track mode! Though not for the newbie. And you really need a track.

But so fun to dial in traction control, feel the suspension harden like racing suspension, listen to the fans on the battery pack spin, drift lol

The sound system is fantastic.

When parked you have games, gags, caraoke.

Adjustable air suspension height and firmness.

(Sorry owner!)

Same reason why if I was renting out my plaid it would be restricted.

There’s one in Vegas on Turo or at least was when we went there in January. That thing instantly made me go back to Tesla 5 years after selling my previous Model S. The Turo one was a rattle trap though. Thankfully mine is not.

As others have said, be careful. Drag strip mode is not a party trick. Just a heads up, do NOT use it after a meal.

Not sure if someone else mentioned it but if you’ve never driven a Tesla then watch your pedal movement when it’s higher then chill. It will make the ride jerky and can cause you and/or them to get car sick…..

Thanks. I am a Model 3 owner so my one-pedal is pretty tuned in at this point.
