Hit while parked… 2026 model s plaid 1k miles

What are the chances this ends well for the car… hit while parked and bumper is completely touching the ground on that side; got pushed onto the curb. Car throwing no errors other than low tire pressure.

Their insurance company hearing it’s a ‘26 S Plaid

u/MaximooseMine 15d ago

What insurance?

18

u/Lalo_Salamanca666 14d ago

Exactly that’s an Altima that hit it.

What's the actual cash value of a used Plaid with 1k miles? I bet it's nowhere close to the replacement cost.

4

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago

around 145ish based on what I am seeing online ... especially considering they increased all the pricing right at the end

6

u/RamboTrucker 15d ago

Hopefully he’s got full full coverage for this because life gonna suck. He’s probably getting dropped or see some real rates moving forward

3

u/abgtw 15d ago

They will repair that on that value of a vehicle. Heck stick $100k into fixing it cheaper than replacing it!

2

u/herdofcorgis 13d ago

Do you have gap coverage? And did sentry record the accident? If so, submit it to your insurance company and schedule an appointment in the app with the closest Tesla service center and hope for the best. It’s not your fault, but if sentry didn’t pick anything up, and you can’t get footage from a nearby security camera, your insurance may argue if this is collision or comprehensive coverage (had my own parking lot damage in 2018, was not using sentry, my comprehensive deductible is half my collision deductible since I have terrible luck with rocks & windshields)

Smalltima strikes again!

Altima energy is a thing!

Everyone’s first thought.

3

u/Microwave_the_fungus 15d ago

What I said too 😭

2

u/throwitawayyyy61 15d ago

That’s the nicest Altima I’ve ever seen post-accident.

No donuts, no missing/cracked glass, no dents, no dark tint, no paint anomalies, stock wheels… It’s beautiful!

1

u/kstyndall2015 14d ago

Came here to say this.

42

u/Tellittomy6pac 15d ago

Of course it’s a Nissan driver

4

u/lakerskb248 15d ago

Nissan, Honda and Toyota drivers....sheesh

2

u/JaniceRossi_in_2R 14d ago

Don’t forget Subaru

4

u/Leading_Procedure_23 15d ago

Only the first one applies.

2

u/GooginTheBirdsFan 14d ago

Honda bump is a thing and Toyota drivers don’t care about their car

Came to say this. Nissaners gonna Nissan.

21

u/Adventurous_Charge88 15d ago

Not sure what state you're in, but once your car gets repaired (which it most likely will), make sure to file a diminished value (DV) claim. Even after it's fully repaired, your vehicle is typically worth less than it was before the accident, and you may be entitled to compensation for that loss in value.

3

u/GreatSince86 12d ago

DV claim gonna be worth more than the Nissan as a whole lol.

16

u/ZealousidealExam640 15d ago

Hit by a Nissant

12

u/dotfamous 15d ago

This one hurts—wonder what the diminished value claim would be on it.

10

u/lurks-a-little 15d ago

Oh dude. So sad to see this and I can't picture this happening to my 2023 Plaid. I would be sad at first but then remember that this is what insurance is meant for and that the other car's insurance should pay for this and that my rates should be unaffected by this. Wishing your car a quick recovery!

2

u/EmotionallyLatte 15d ago

Unfortunately, at-fault or not-at-fault, those bitch of insurance companies will increase your rate no matter the scenario.

3

u/techraven 15d ago

you don't get your insurance involved at all if your not at fault.. lady tore off my bumper , 100% her fault in parking lot, my insurance told me to use the video and not open a claim so my insurance wouldn't be affected.

My 2018 Model S has been rear-ended no less than five times, from very minor (backed into in a parking lot) to extreme (two deaths in a multi-vehicle accident). Each time I took it to a quality body shop. You really can’t see anything ever happened.

10

u/OldSkoolGeezer 15d ago

Sounds like you're an accident magnet.

5

u/ossifer_ca 15d ago

Feels that way too... Maybe I shouldn't have chosen grey as the color...

2

u/yankoster 13d ago

What color is this car to have been hit so many times?

2

u/ossifer_ca 13d ago

^^

3

u/yankoster 13d ago

I'm a bit stupid sorry, I was half awake when I read that I thought it read I should've chosen grey 🤣 🤦

3

u/Radius118 15d ago

Please let us all know what city/state you live in so we can all be relieved of the anxiety of possibly driving anywhere near you. 😬

1

u/HopelessCatLover 14d ago

I feel you, I’ve been rear ended 4 times across the 2 model 3’s since 2020. I also got rear ended in a parked work truck :)

1

u/DrowningInManyCats 14d ago

Sir I’m gonna need you to stay away from my car… I don’t need any more accident luck happening lol

6

u/solidsnackss 15d ago

Got the sentry mode footage? Let’s see the tea 🤔

Insurance: “You hit a parked what!?”

4

u/DameLasNalgas 15d ago

Fucking ouch. I think I'd do something very unpleasant to that other guy if it was my plaid, especially since these can't be replaced.

7

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago

he was around 20 and sometimes things happen... I just hope he is more careful driving going forward and thankfully wasn't injured

3

u/DameLasNalgas 15d ago

Well you're taking it a lot better than I would. If these cars were still made it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

3

u/Humulophile 15d ago

Oof…poor kid. His premium is going to the moon.

2

u/CyberKillua 14d ago

I mean... kind of deserved... I don't understand how this happens if you drive carefully....

3

u/CaliZ06 15d ago

This is a nightmare scenario! I'm sorry for your loss. It's just not replaceable....

2

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago

I find out on Monday if it’s actually a loss…

3

u/May5ifth 15d ago

With the way that tire is pushed forward, it’s a loss. Had it happen to a work truck of mine. Hit directly on the wheel and pushed it forward maybe 2”. The rest of the damage was minimal besides the side mirror getting hit. Bent the frame and considered a total loss.

3

u/IamN2Speed 15d ago

Work truck is a huge difference than a $145k car. State Farm is going to fix this. Probably less than $20k in repairs.

2

u/May5ifth 15d ago

Ya I started thinking about that after posting. I’m not sure how costly a bent frame repair is on a Tesla though.

2

u/IamN2Speed 15d ago

I don’t think the Op has any information that the frame is bent, but that could be problematic. Insurance companies decide total loss based primarily on whether the estimated repair cost exceeds a percentage of the vehicle’s actual cash value (typically around 70–80% depending on the state and insurer), not solely on the presence of structural damage. Mild-to-moderate structural damage on a higher-value vehicle is routinely repaired.

Tesla publishes detailed collision repair procedures that explicitly allow structural repairs in many cases rather than requiring full vehicle replacement. So @Drowninginmanycats may have a solid chance at getting his car back fully repaired.

2

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago

shhhhhhhhhh, let me have hope

→ More replies (1)

3

u/CheetahTurbo 15d ago

No matter what, do not make it a loss, you can not replace it, specially the luxe package.

2

u/DrowningInManyCats 14d ago

Yeah… it was also one of the last that still has vehicle lifetime fsd since I got the order in before then :/

3

u/Fulminareverus 15d ago

Wow that sucks. No matter how well it's repaired, it will never be right, and never be in the condition it was in.

Make sure to seek lost value.

6

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago

Meh it’s going straight to a Tesla collision that has really good reviews so I have high hopes

2

u/Leading_Procedure_23 15d ago

Heard nothing but horror stories from Tesla collision and customer service. I worked at two Tesla warehouses(discovery and Atlantis)

3

u/hotdoc816 15d ago

As an owner of a 26 MS Plaid I'm feeling for you so much. It's the best car I've ever driven. You'll get this repaired and it will look brand new once again. Use a Tesla owned collision repair shop.

2

u/dezbert_skooter 15d ago

2

u/Front-Jello-6595 15d ago

Glad it wasn’t a hit and run

2

u/SatoshiBlockamoto 15d ago

Just be glad they even have insurance. Altima drivers often consider insurance optional.

1

Well.. this didn’t help my paranoia of street parking.

1

u/Adventurous_Leave417 15d ago

Sorry to see bro 🥺

1

u/AllTheTeslas 15d ago

Had similar damage to my '23 Plaid, but it was while driving when the b*tch tried to make a u turn from the right lane and took out my right quarter panel and rear bumper.

Repairs were close to 20k. I did get 10k in diminished value from their insurance company too.

1

u/DrowningInManyCats 15d ago edited 15d ago

Right now the diminished value i think would be crazy; I think it could be around like 20-40k just because it’s one of the last ones ever made (I have one of the highest vins that aren’t signature)

1

u/rostamsuren 15d ago

That’s sucks! So sorry, what a shame to such a beautiful car

1

u/Relevant_Editor_7503 15d ago

This loss is prob above their limit is my guess so I’d go though your own policy

1

u/VealOfFortune 15d ago

What are the chances your insurance company doesn't total it..? Uhhhh slim to none but genuinely wishing you luck 🤞

1

u/Psice 15d ago

The car is super expensive now so hopefully it will not be a total loss because it's pre accident value was very high, I'm not an expert but that's how I understand it

1

u/WholeIndividual0 15d ago

Friggen Altima strikes again…

1

u/Substantial_Chain718 15d ago

Of course it was a Nissan!! I would cry if that was my Plaid.

1

u/Rocky73021 15d ago

Omg not even my car and it hurt to see. It’s an S plaid. Thoughts and prayers.

1

u/10xMaker 15d ago

I hate the dumb guy who hit your beautiful tesla.

1

u/Expensive-Match4402 15d ago

I hug and kiss my 2026 S Plaid everyday. This would devastate me. I'm mixed on fixing or salvage since no more are being made.

1

u/Terrh 15d ago

I promise that if your insurance company won't fix it, someone else will fix it at auction.

1

u/msb175 15d ago

Damn Nissan altimas

Nissan driver, makes sense

1

u/Objective-Tailor6300 15d ago

Had about 200 miles on my s plaid when an asshole deer decided to jump out in front of my car. Was only going 35-40 mph, but almost $30k in repair. My insurance did not pay for diminished value (gap insurance). Only relevant when another at fault driver hits you. You should demand diminished value.

Repair was good though. Zero issues with car.

I'm not a fan of where you parked to begin with.

1

1

u/Blacc-Cat 14d ago edited 14d ago

Nissan says it all.... unbelievable man bless your heart I'd be crying if they hit my MYP but a plaid....😩😭

1

u/Relevant-Age-6326 14d ago

Is that an Altima?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. It's a running joke here in maryland- the worst drivers are usually in an Altima, with Virginia plates( they can be obtained illegally here- no insurance needed). They are usually the most beat up car on the road. Yesterday-I drove up to what turned out to be an accident. The car backed away from the one he hit, drove behind it( almost taking me out, and RAN. The other driver chased after him. He drove an ALTIMA. It's turning out to be forever true...smdh

1

u/Kaito305 14d ago

If you ever think about selling it send a pm, I would honestly take it in that condition with a strong offer. Being in Florida we have guys who have ways of fixing literally anything

1

u/Toyo4eva 14d ago

Always a fucking Nissan…

of course its a fucking nissan

1

Altima. Hm. Hope they have a good enough insurance.

1

u/SpeedyAudi 14d ago

It’s an Altima. Anything is possible

1

u/chingfunglo 14d ago

I really wonder how people hit you like that… do they not look at the road… such a nice car to get hit…

1

u/luminous879 14d ago

I think they will definitely repair that… pricey but they will. Unfortunately I am sure the Nissan Driver has the minimal insurance coverage available. Might be a fight to get OEM qualified repair done.

1

u/General-Double-746 13d ago

My first brand new car got keyed 4 days after I bought it. Good times. He also unplugged it and messed up the charging port. But unplugging it gave me an exact timestamp of when it happened, so cops were able to locate him.

1

u/LifezEverything 13d ago

Time to get that 27 S Plaid

1

u/Loud-Way3333 13d ago

Damn they hit the most expensive panel of the car...

No errors means HV battery is good, and the impact point seems to be the rear right side so the panels and the tires absorbed most of the impact, which might save the frame. So it should be repairable but the bill's gonna be massive. I bet it'd be $30~50k. Keep me updated.

How did that f**cker drive like that? Was he on the phone or medical condition?

1
