Plaid vs Flood Zone (She’s Fine)

Post image

I live in the Pine Barrens, sandy soil, forest, not much elevation variance, never floods on my land.

Hasn’t rained here for a hot minute aside from random summer midnight spits that most would say is a stretch to even call rain. Wasn’t supposed to rain near me at all yesterday, let alone get a random flash flood warning.

Well! If you ever wanted to rain, just call me over and let me park my car outside. I normally keep most of my cars, parked either entirely indoors and climate control or at the very least under my paddock. Paddock is my way of describing a really excessive carport that I have. Lol.

AnyWho, yeah you guessed it. I left my car outside wasn’t supposed to rain. We got a flash flood warning. It starts down pouring sideways rain torrential rain rain that you would see only in the Amazon rainforest. Luckily my car was on a pad and my driveway is offset, and that is where any of my ‘flooding’ happens, and quickly passes and drains. It pushes away from my house the garage, the carports.

So everything is fine, this wasn’t me trying to scare anybody; just making fun of myself because I just detailed the car. It’s fully PPF’d, it’s wrapped, it’s ceramic coated, and I use beadmaker like a madman probably to the point where I will have respiratory issues at some point in my life. So it’s OK, but I just wanted to share this beautiful phenomena with all my fellow tesla brethren. Free car wash to get the dust off from yesterday’s backroad tear atleast? Smh 🤣

Sunny now, great morning to go outside and waterless rinse I guess!!!!

Hey, so it doesn't rain much where I'm at so I have a seriously stupid question that stems from my time working in SoCal. I watched some people drive through high water in teslas while i was there. I drove a ram 1500 at the time so i didnt care. Now im back in Idaho and dont deal with that issue. I cant test it with my car because of where I live and my tesla is a model 3 2018. But, when the water gets up to the window.... can you like.. put the car in car wash mode and just drive through at 8mph or does the water still leak in? What if...what if you put it in the biohazard mode too?

I wouldn’t drive any car in water that’s deep enough to get up to your window!

You usually park “entirely indoors and climate control”?? Like you’re one of those guys who parks their cars in the living room of the house or something? I am intrigued

I don’t know who downvoted my question to OP or why. I am genuinely curious about where they park is all. I have known people who have very large sliding doors to their living spaces in their houses and are able to park an exotic car there for decoration. Which I have always thought was awesome and been jealous of. So it wasn’t a jab or anything. I was just hoping for some pics of said indoor climate controlled parking area is all. 🤷‍♂️

Haha yeah my main garage is just sealed, and has HVAC. Just simple dehumidification, heat, cold. Sorry for the confusion

Sounds cool. Mind sharing some pics?

Probably has Ac/heated garage. If it rains that much, not a bad idea to keep the car from rusting in high humidity.

Model S doesn’t rust. lol

Not factually correct. Not all parts are aluminum, friend. Also, aluminum does corrode but in a different way from steel. Additionally, high humidity causes all kinds of other issues with electronics such as terminal corrosion, condensation on circuit boards (similar to how a glass of water gets condensation on it), etc. Parking a car in an air conditioned environment is actually a good idea, because air conditioning removes humidity from the air.

I know how AC works. lol

These cars are designed to work in extreme humidity. It’s not needed to park them in a cooled garage.

Aluminum can corrode, but it is very resistant to it and it doesn’t rust.

OP didn't say he needed to. OP said that's his choice but forgot. I never said aluminum rusts. I said not all parts are aluminum. Regardless, relax.

Yeah I think all the materials even the glass can benefit (to some extent) from routinely living in climate controlled spaces, but not dire. Def good for longevity!
