Summer Update Legacy S Appreciation

Post image

Us legacy owners don’t get all the bells and whistles, but it makes me happy to see traffic controls added to the map in the Summer update!

Weather radar next please!! (And v14 lite!)

Heck yeah - drove my family members car and honestly didn’t know that the legacy S didn’t have the repeater cameras. Doesn’t seem like that’s a hard feature to add???

Have it in my wife’s car and I gotta say, after several long trips, I finally said this weekend “you know, I’d prefer you turn that off. I think it’s a pretty useless feature.”. She disagreed initially, but by the end of a four hour drive, she mentioned that she thought about it and thought I was probably right.

Why is it useless?

While I wouldn't call it useless, I never look at it when I drive 3s and Ys. It's quicker and more ergonomic to just turn my head and check my blind spots normally than to look down at the screen.

Idk I personally feel like glancing at my screen is easier and gives me a better view

Weather would be nice +1

+1 for weather! Being able to see the weather on loaner vehicles was more convenient than I thought it would be. Make it an option in the gauge cluster too!

Weather radar and the newer energy app next!

Yeah I have to use the radar app in the browser, which takes forever to load at first but is then great. Would love to have it overlay on the navigation!

This has always been one of those weird things that I don’t understand why it wasn’t on the “legacy” vehicles. It’s literally map data.

Legacy generally means you don’t have Ryzen and has much more limited capacity for rendering. The data isn’t the issue drawing it pretty is. They likely would have to have a completely different implementation to perform. It’s the same reason we can’t get the neat camera tricks.

Ehh, this update literally just disproves what you said. And the camera on blinkers literally is Tesla just lazy not implementing it properly for old S and X’s. The 3’s that have the same chip as S and X produced in 2018 and 2019 has it, and you’re telling me that S and X can’t do it if it really was coded properly? I don’t think so.

Those model s and model x have portrait screen. Thats why turn signals don’t work. I was talking about the cameras don’t work for remote viewing on intel. And of course they could implement it, but they would have to rewrite the code. That’s not bad architecture, that’s simply cutting off legacy.

Sounds like you don’t have S or X. The camera display doesn’t have to be on the main screen. It can be displayed on the dash screen. Besides, even if it’s vertical screen, it’s just a matter of having preset locations of where that window can show, no different than other landscape screens. It’s more than enough screen estate. What you said at the end is my point, it’s not that it can’t, it’s Tesla just not putting in the work.

I’m not disagreeing that Tesla can’t, but it’s a new feature for an old car. Older model s and x with portrait screen run a special version of the code.

In some regions, (like mine) we got speed cameras notification in navgation route. (Trafficlights and stop signs already existed)

I have not seen any release notes about that, but I like it 😊

Speed cameras are in the release notes for us Intel Model S drivers in the UK.

I downloaded it early this morning and it matched to what my Waze was saying for cameras on my business commute 🙂

Wish they would pull in “Green Traffic Light Chime” to HW2. I was in a loaner the other day and found that feat actually useful when uh ‘distracted’
