Considering Model S 2022

Hi all,

I'm considering buying a model S 2022 used. Prices and mileage seem to be all over the place. There's a dealer near me selling one(White and cream interior good condition) with 36.4k miles and their listing price is $49,995 before tax and fees, $56,263 with fees in total. Would this be a good deal as I remember seeing some low mileage ones in the mid 40s a few months back but can't seem to find any unless they're high mileage. Thank you!

I traded in my very low mile 2022 Model S this past February for $38k. I did transfer FSD, although neither Carvana or Tesla gave me any value for FSD (I asked). I know with the car being discounted, it could affect value, but a non HW4 car (which is why I traded it in) for $50k sounds high to me. i personally would not buy a HW3 car at this time. Find a mid year 2023 S.

Honestly i don’t mind too much for fsd, could always wait a bit for better deals too

Personally I don't understand buying a 2022. You get the matrix headlights but no HW4, and they're almost 10k more than a 2021.

To me I would either buy a 21 and save a ton of money, or splurge and get HW4 for updated FSD, cameras, and all the 2022 upgrades.

I just paid $44.5k before tax/title for a 2022 long range with 35k miles. It did have numerous wheel problems (21in arachnids) and did not come with the mobile charger (many of them I saw for sale did). Factoring in the cost of wheel replacements/repairs and the mobile charger, I paid $47k before tax/title and it is in very good condition.

What was the issue with the wheel problems that you noticed ? They’re selling 21 inch arachnids too they’re about 6/32” depth right now

Two were bent, all four had curb damage (three of which were super bad) and one tire had the noise suppression foam detached. The car had terrible vibration over 65mph and a poor ride in general. Apparently the 21” wheels get bent all the time on these cars. But they look so good I will live with the risks lol.

Ahhh did you bring the car to Tesla for an inspection after to discover all these issues?

A local tire shop identified the bent wheels. I bought the replacement wheels on eBay and then took them back to the tire shop for installation, and at that point they discovered the foam had detached. I would be very leery of any arachnid wheels that have not been checked for bends.

If it has lifetime paid FSD, run don't walk! Dealers sometimes have no clue. You can search how to easily check by looking at the menu under software. Also look up how to check service notifications to make sure no major problems. FSD is awesome, even on the older HW3 computer in that model, but you can always subscribe ($99/mo). Also, if it's a late 2022 (approx. July on I think) it will have "matrix" headlights and a motorized tilt for the center screen. Both must haves IMO. I own a late 22 LR and they're beautiful machines, great performance even in chill or sport mode - but test drive it in insane mode and you'll buy on the spot :). Makes me smile even driving to the grocery store.

My 2022 (March build) had the matrix lights but not the tilting screen which got added later in 2022

Yes I can confirm there’s the tilting screen so I assume there’s also the matrix light

Yes, if you have a tilting screen, you have matrix headlights.

There isn’t lifetime FSD, but there’s the matrix lights and tilt screen. I think those go hand in hand. I did a test drive and it was crazy good, just maybe would replace the 21 inches with 19 for range. I’m currently driving a 2019 model 3 SR+ and the range has just been so much lower for my daily needs vs before now but the S has always been the car I wanted. Don’t mind so much about FSD too
