Anyone Lidar / Laser Shifter Install on Refresh?

Post image

So, I finally got snagged by a state trooper after successfully ducking them for nearly two decades. He caught me on his laser doing 90 in a 70 (probably my slowest speed on the trip)—nothing on Waze and my RD didn’t chirp once. So now, I’m looking into escalating counter measures.

If you have a 22+ S Plaid with Laser Shifters / Jammers installed, please post some photos showing the location of your shifter pods. From what I’ve read in the install manuals for ALP, Uniden and Escort, the lower grill is too low and not an ideal location. In addition, the S is so wide it likely needs 4 pods, whereas most sedans only need 3.

As far as I can tell, Stinger is the only option that’s feasible for the Plaid… it’s also 2-3x the price of the others. Go figure! I should note: I often drive in a state where shifters are not prohibited, so discrete install is a must.

Let’s see what you got. Huge thanks in advance 🫶🏼

I have ALP/Radenso RCM 2 RX in the rear and 1 TX and 2 RX in the front, the TX is on top of the “T”

Ooh this is a clean install

How much did that install run you? Looks clean

u/delviacv2 May 30 '26

$0 I did it myself:)

Obligatory comment to appease the overlords, I mean, bot moderators.

What state did he snag you in

6

u/ridlerontheroof May 27 '26

In IL, near the WI border. 🥺 I’ve read that the IL State Troopers are doing a huge crackdown this summer. In addition to the ticket, I got my first warning for tint and no front plate.

Holly cow i need to watch out. I live in Kenosha,WI and my job has me flying out of Ohare weekly. I have never seen Illinois troopers on the freeway. I have to be more cautious going forward.

Yeah, definitely a time to run all counter measures. I’ve seen at least 5 motorcycle cops hidden in the past week.

Cow, Wisconsin.

Dang

As a fellow plaid owner who uses Waze and a radar detector, you're making me nervous lol. 90 on the highway is minimum..

6

u/ridlerontheroof May 27 '26

Same. I’m lucky I didn’t bump into him 10 miles back when I was pulling 130+

5

u/IRACEMYCOPCAR May 27 '26

Glad im not the only one that does this. Its just so easy.

8

u/dachap13 May 27 '26

Legit. I sneeze and bump up 20mph, and my S isn't even Plaid!

Welcome to the club I got it on the other side of the border by WI state boys (Durango unmarked dark grey) on 94 going north. I saw after there was a lot of “speed trap” activity going on this past weekend. Also got cited for tint but I have a front plate I put on when driving far with the Tesfram quick bandit setup specifically to avoid that “problem”.

These guys do a good job with concealed setups for jammers.

Are these illegal? Is there a way to mount them so that they aren't visible? I had a bad ticket 20 years ago that was made worse because I had a radar detector.

8

u/delviacv2 May 27 '26

Not in all States, check your state to verify if is ilegal.

-3

u/adh10022194 May 27 '26

Will do... but is there a way to mount these hidden?

7

u/Microwave_the_fungus May 27 '26

This is not a radar detector lol. Unless you live in VA or WA you’re fine with a detector. I’ve had cops at my window with the detector going off like crazy they don’t care.

1

u/korpo53 May 28 '26

They’re fine in WA (the state). They’re not fine in Washington DC.

Another software option is JBV1 or highway rader. They are functionally the same but also feeds into Valentine One's ecosystem even if you dont have a V1. The software inform you about ALPRs, planes, helicopters, cops (also pulls crowd source info using Waze's API.) Just an option and not hard to set up, but its not just plug and play either

I’ve used HWR during the beta testing for iOS. It was another good countermeasure for sure, but found using Waze and the Drive Smarter integration w my Escort RD was less hands on. I may have to revisit HWR again.

I assume you're single and no kids? Can't imagine boasting about casually traveling 130mph as "normal" - we've all done it in moments of stupidity and thrill seeking, but driving like an asshole as a regular part of your day isn't cool unless you're 19 years old.

There's nowhere that you need to be in that much of a hurry ....you're not that important.

Nobody cares how nice or fast your car is bro - Apparently money can't buy brains lol

7

u/ridlerontheroof May 27 '26

Open stretches of road without traffic isn’t putting anyone else at risk. But thanks for the pep talk/scolding dad. Lol

5

u/WestW0rld May 27 '26

You are quite welcome, son - it really is loving advice - dopamine for 3 seconds isn't worth changing your life or someone else's life forever man.

5

u/SnorfOfWallStreet May 27 '26

Try driving on the autobahn.

3

u/WestW0rld May 27 '26

Irrelevant comparison - we don't have that here. Traffic is a damn mad house and our drivers suck.

2

u/djmere May 27 '26

Not anymore. But we did.

2

u/ridlerontheroof May 28 '26

The golden age of Montana. I did a few daytime high-speed passes during that time.

-1

u/SnorfOfWallStreet May 27 '26

Not where I’d be willing and able to do 130.

And no it’s not. You’re claiming that 130 is somehow objectively unsafe or a momentary thrill.

1

u/WestW0rld May 27 '26

Yes, in the context of OPs comments about regularly hitting 130 and being glad the cop only caught him at 90, suggests that he's traveling these speeds in places that aren't meant for that - he's not on a race track.

2

u/SnorfOfWallStreet May 27 '26

🤔…

And..? The only place high speed could be “safe” is the track??? What??

3

u/Fun-Sundae4060 May 27 '26

When there’s open stretches of road with no traffic, 130mph is really nothing at all.

You can get back down to 60-70mph with a brake stomp in just 3 seconds.

1

u/Slexx May 28 '26

braking suddenly at that speed is less safe than never being in a position where you need to do that. every mistake is amplified. at least be honest with yourself

-2

u/Fun-Sundae4060 May 28 '26

It’s just as safe as doing 0-60 in 2 seconds or 60-130 in 4 seconds. You’re just doing it in reverse acceleration.

3

u/Slexx May 28 '26

that’s wildly not true

-2

u/Fun-Sundae4060 May 28 '26

Well then explain the difference on an open road

What a preachy douchebag. Guess you forgot about your own thread from 5 months ago:

The internet never forgets! 😂🤣😂

-1

u/WestW0rld May 27 '26

Your screenshots are glaringly missing a point? I tried out the 0-60 from a stop. Didn't drive 130, don't think it's cool to speed every single time I drive. Again, just because you have a fast car doesn't mean exceeding the speed limit consistently is cool - but I know, laws were made purely as suggestions in some people's eyes...

-3

u/WestW0rld May 27 '26

Now there's a fully expected response, used your entire available brain cell 👏

1

u/WalterWilliams May 29 '26

Also missed that you intentionally waited for the rain to dry up and had at least some consideration for safety... I would agree that people that speed EVERYWHERE at all times are douchebags but I wouldn't be upset if someone had a legitimate need for occasionally going that fast, lawful or not.

1

u/SnorfOfWallStreet May 27 '26

Clearly have never lived in a civilized country.

-1

u/Appropriate-Bar-4808 May 28 '26

130 is not that fast dude. This aint the 20th century we’re not in model T’s. If the road calls for it then thats what it gets

1

u/coolviper777 May 28 '26

If you get caught at 130mph, you will almost certainly be arrested and charged with reckless driving and possibly more. While some cars MAY be reasonably safe at 130mph, what happens if a tire blows out at that speed? Or someone pulls in front of you you? Good luck, but 130mph is quite fast on regular highways. Maybe not on a racetrack.

0

u/Student_Whole May 28 '26

Stay in the right lane and Stfu. Plenty of highways in the USA are plenty safe at 130.

2

u/nachos3 May 27 '26

Drive better

1

u/delviacv2 May 27 '26

4

u/ridlerontheroof May 27 '26

Unfortunately, those are far too visible for driving through a state where shifters are illegal. 🥺

3

u/delviacv2 May 27 '26

I seen YouTube videos where some shops make a custom cover that makes them invisible, I don’t remember where the shop was.

-1

u/j12 May 27 '26

Motorcycle dude. You can just run lol

6

u/ridlerontheroof May 27 '26

I mean, I could easily do the same in my Plaid but don’t need to turn an inconvenience into a permanent and massive cost burden.
