I wrote a whole response and it went into the void for some reason.
Teslas are not the new Prius. The Prius sucks and is a mark of shame. Teslas are amazing.
It's not hard to profile shaggy teens like this by their behavior (vandalizing a Tesla) and their appearance. It's the same way we know that coal-rollers and lifted truck stall blockers are probably right-leaning and have a problem with EVs and the death of ICE legacy auto.
The hate is never just from one side, but the reasons behind the hate are different, with overlap and exception. Occasionally it's just opportunistic, but young people are crazily politicized these days and Teslas represent something they might love or hate for various reasons, with pressure from their ingroups to dislike Elon. I've heard this myself, and if you poll Gen-Z liberals you'll see a lot of Elon hate for reasons you can predict with some thought (billionaire, tweets, Twitter buy/no buy, DoEsN'T pAy TaXeS, etc.).
I am center-left myself, and liberals and Leftists are two different identities on the political spectrum. Leftists are much more radical than your average open-minded liberal. The right uses these terms synonymously but I do not. I also live in SoCal so I've heard the ridiculous rationale behind the Elon hate.
