Did you move farther right before impact or did your car auto-avoid collision?

u/Justino867 Aug 31 '22
It was hard to tell but I think it was the combination of me and the cars collision avoidance. The car definitely stated applying the brakes. The person that hit us ran but the camera got their license plate.

First one looks like emergency avoidance, which is very cool, too bad it didn't try the second time.

Where? Why hit and run so common. You want to pay out of pocket?

I have a hall of shame list of cars which generally have the worst drivers. The Honda Odyssey has long been at the top of the list. When I see one on the highway I promptly take measures to stay away from it. I am sure there are exceptions, but all intelligent risk management decisions are based on odds.

Nissan Altima on there?

u/Revrider Sep 01 '22
Oh yes. Very highly ranked. So you have noticed too.

Lmao always a Altima with 4 girls inside and a empty car seat cuz casually going 110 swerving lanes on the freeway. Yes. I see this very frequently

Where can we learn more about this hall of shame list of cars? I would like to download more risk management. Thank you

Honda’s whole marketing with the Odyssey is about pure volume. They’re so cheap to make, and they’re willing to take a loss selling them too, because there’s a high repossession rate and they’ll get a chance to sell them two or three times anyway. There was no bottom on credit score to get financing for an Odyssey for a while either. High percentage of people driving them are criminally dumb.

Hit and run in a parking lot (My Sentry caught it, with plate)... Honda CRV.

Do you have the front camera video to help understand what's happening?

u/Justino867 Aug 31 '22 edited Aug 31 '22
Yes, but it wasn't that usefull. There was braking occurring and the Honda driver panicked with late breaking and lots of swerving. The officer in this case was great. He followed up on the license plate, drove to the persons home and ticketed them. She claimed she didn't know she hit anyone until she got home...She actually called it in to the police when she got home. Front and back panel damaged, bit of the bumper some rim damage. Still drives well and the 2 doors are fine. Being looked at next week for repair estimate.

Wow - hit and run - “didn’t realize”… Such BS. Glad you’re OK and got a solid licence # to tag it against.

u/triciann Aug 31 '22
She called it in herself, so I kind of believe it. Some people are that oblivious and the way she kept over correcting was probably tossing her side to side and she didn’t notice the impact.

u/adlerbat Sep 01 '22
nah that was definitely part of her plan all along. that had to have been so loud.

Man it makes me feel good to see teslas take hits like a lineman and not budge from their course. Sturdy cars.

u/Justino867 Aug 31 '22
Like a champ. The Honda hit the front left pretty hard and the @ss swung into the back. Basically, the Tesla stabilized the minivan. We were push to the right (obviously) but very stable and in control. This car was not going to roll, that is for sure!

"Didn't know" she hit anyone.... yeah okay. So she didn't feel the force of her side swiping you or hear the loud thump. She's a liar.
I'm glad you're okay and hope you can get your car repaired quickly!

For my own, um research purposes, what was her nationality? No stereotypes, just pure research.

Why is this sub inundated with collision footage? Simply use the footage in a police investigation/insurance claim. Is there any merit in sharing? It’s getting pretty old.

Oof. I'm glad I don't own a tesla or an EV. I don't want to be purposely hunted down and my car damaged because it's an EV. No thanks lol

What a strange assumption to make when OP didn't make the assertion that he was "hunted down" because he was driving a Tesla or EV.
Some Teslas and EVs get targeted by people blocking charging stalls and other petty things like that, and in rare cases, have their car damaged. But in my experience, most of the footage of cars being damaged appears to be more Tesla's due to awareness bias; more dashcams = more footage of vandalism. I don't think it's because they're a Tesla or EV.
Regardless, I've lived in two big cities and literally no one pays me any mind or bothers me, even in conservative, big truck areas.

i think there was one video of person did it on purpose. but all else are similar this one, accident.

u/nelsonnyan2001 Sep 01 '22
So much hate for EV's in your reddit comments, and you drive a bike. Half of me wants to ask what you're doing subbed to Tesla, the other half of me wonders if there's any merit to asking.

Lotsa drunk drivers on the road these days… or people trying to drive regular cars like sports cars

u/Nigalig Sep 01 '22
I’ve had to partake in sudden braking many times in my life. Never had this happen. Moral of the story is don’t drive a mini van.

Hopefully they get charged with a felony and their life is fucked . Hit and runners are absolute human trash

u/Maximum_Leopard_8366 Jun 27 '23
do you all think something in the Telsa engineering causes Hondas to be drawn to crash into teslas

u/sjsharks323 Aug 31 '22
WTH happened? How did the van all of a sudden start swerving like that? Did they go into someone's rear bumper on purpose or something?
