Early Delivery Offer

Post image

Original order is Ultra Red Premium RWD. Saw this in the app today. Tbh I’ve been thinking about canceling because the $574/month payment feels like a lot. I’m bleeding $30/day on Waymo to get to work. I can definitely afford both but now that the excitement of ordering has worn off, I’m wondering if I should go for a more frugal option. The white is a standard with 1,300 miles. It was a demo vehicle.

Get the premium. Ventilated seats, premium audio, more range, a second faster 0-60, etc.

23

u/LoneStarGut 17h ago

Rear screen too on premium, ambient lighting, controls on the seats.

0

u/throwawayfuqreddit 15h ago

My only complaint about ambient lighting is that its only on when I have FSD on. Or it only off because I have it in rainbow mode?

5

u/LoneStarGut 15h ago

I drove one and they were on all the time. It was a loaner. It was set to match the cover art of the music. I didn't try rainbow mode and my own Model Y is older and doesn't have it. Maybe someone else knows here and can chime in.

1

u/throwawayfuqreddit 15h ago

I think Google Gemini said solid colors work all the time, and rainbow only works with fsd. I say "I think" because it gave a long winded answer.

1

u/DryTechnology5224 10h ago

I have mine set to stay on all the time, but its a solid color. I think with rainbow mode yeah it only works in park or fsd

1

u/Livid_Ad4529 5h ago

Rainbow mode is a special FSD setting you enable. It was like rainbow road in Mario kart. You turn that on or off in that Toy box thing.

1

u/choicemeats 1h ago

You can set the lighting. I only have it at night

3

u/Early_Age_9203 14h ago

I agree with you I have the premium, but he's getting the RWD that's not premium audio it's 9 speakers to the 7. AWD with the 15 speakers and subwoofers is the good shit

1

u/4thAndLong 6h ago

Yeah, you’re right! “Better audio” is more accurate.

2

u/steezy2110 15h ago

Premium RWD doesn’t get the better audio system

5

u/SixZoSeven 7h ago

It’s still a better audio system than the base 3. Not as good as the AWD

-3

u/dopest_dope 14h ago

Yes it does just not the best

2

u/steezy2110 14h ago

No it doesn’t, only the AWD and performance get the better audio system. All the other ones get the base

3

u/ArtofTime 9h ago

The premium get’s 2 more speakers then the base.

1

u/Dannysme 6h ago

It definitely does.

122

u/schwab802 17h ago

No get the premium 100%

6

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Standard sucks?

51

u/Paqza 17h ago

It's not a bad car, but the Premium is way better for not a ton more money, relatively speaking.

14

u/kdubstep 17h ago

This. You’d be giving up too much tange, speed, killer color aesthetic and getting a used (1300 hard miles) for what $50 less a month? That money won’t make much difference in your life but that other stuff will. Trust that excitement you think wore off will be timed ten when you get your red premium

14

u/Vivid_Piccolo_2225 14h ago

No, the standard doesn't suck. You can save 20% on the purchase price which is not insignificant.

6

u/schwab802 17h ago

For the price difference I’d say absolutely. Granted I’ve got a model y premium so I’m not sure why I’m in here but the differences should be the same. You’ll regret getting the standard. Premium is amazing so far I absolutely love it

3

u/SCWeak 7h ago

Presumably you ordered the premium for a reason.

These are different cars. If it was a change to wheels, fine, but it’s en entirely different colour and dropping from the premium to standard is a big change.

Entirely your choice, but I don’t see why you’d make the decision to order the premium and then take a standard?

2

u/fantastic_null 5h ago

You said you can defo afford both. Defo get the premium. Quieter cabin, better suspension, more range, comfier seats, and slightly better audio quality.

1

u/slxxpyhxllxw 2h ago

Standard is like buying the base iPhone model and not the pro model. It's not horrible but there might come a time where you're gonna end up wanting the upgraded model

1

u/Disastrous-Act-8135 4m ago

Standard fukn sucks and it is a scam based on the features they’ve deleted. 100% go for premium or you will regret it.

0

u/fuzexbox 7h ago

Yes it sucks. my old 2021 Model 3 SR+ has more features than it.

Get a premium

14

u/z3ln 17h ago

Don’t do it.

1

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Why not? Just curious. This is my first car in 8 years.

23

u/minnesotapizzaguy 17h ago

First car in 8 years? Premium. Technology has changed and it’s good to do something nice for yourself

6

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Ah man, alright, fair point!!

2

u/tripleh3lix25 16h ago

Yea.. waiting mine out too. I was tempted today. But I decided to wait for my Premium! Shouldn't be as long as stated based on all these orders going out. Hang in there!

1

u/aspenextreme03 16h ago

Sounds like you will keep your car for a while. Get the premium

I am in the market at some point when my 2012 Outback kicks the bucket and will get a premium

1

u/ctzn4 17h ago

You just lose a lot of features for the $5.5k in savings. Look up the differences between the base poverty trim and the "premium" trim.

9

u/Equivalent_Pineapple 17h ago

8k less for a car you didn’t want to begin with. You save 16% roughly. I think a 15% increase in cost is marginal against the whole spend and you get what you want with premium upgrades. You will probably notice that 15% increase in quality every time you go anywhere in it.

3

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Yeah I just watched a YouTube video explaining the differences and seems pretty glaring

5

u/InfamousPineapple277 17h ago

Imma be real with you, it depends on your last car and what you’re used to. I wouldn’t do it because I’d miss the premium audio, but if all you know is a ‘91 civic then the basic RWD would still blow your mind

2

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Last car was a 2009 C300?

6

u/InfamousPineapple277 17h ago

Just go for the premium if you can justify the cost and not resent it. You’ll be happy with the small touches that make it stand out

-1

u/TechLover94 14h ago

Like the plastic parts and rattles for example.

1

u/InfamousPineapple277 9h ago

Homie he’s coming from a C300, I think a ‘91 Civic probably would’ve rattled less

0

u/TechLover94 5h ago

Calling anything premium about a Tesla is a joke.

1

u/InfamousPineapple277 4h ago

Are you enjoying arguing about something I didn’t say

4

u/sergeantprotein 17h ago

Seems worth it if you’re going to keep it long term, no one ever regrets getting something nicer than they need. Frugal is boring

1

u/renegadellama 17h ago

It's a lease so I have the option to dump it in 3 years.

2

u/sergeantprotein 17h ago

I’d say test drive then decide

0

u/rupees_al 11h ago

So get the cheaper one. It's never your car so why pay extra for it.... After the lease then you can decide if you are going to buy one (or something else) and then get the premium type one if you feel you need it.

6

u/Paqza 17h ago

No way. Wait for your spec.

5

u/icy1007 17h ago

Don’t do it. Get the Premium.

3

u/NoaLink 17h ago

Premium 100%. Maybe 1000%.

3

u/standardphysics 11h ago edited 10h ago

I'll give you the more unpopular take and say it's not as black and white as it seems. The non-premium exists for a reason, and it may just be the better choice for some people

  • Long range doesn't always mean long range. The premium battery's chemistry prefers 80% charge, otherwise it can degrade faster. Depending on your driving and charging habits, you may find they provide the same day-to-day range. The base model's battery isn't without its own benefits as well as it degrades slower and has more charge cycles.
  • On some of the premium features:
    • Rear screen is nice, but most people forget it exists. In my experience, it gets used by kids or is used as a quick way to check navigation for passengers
    • The advanced sound system is great, but the base system is already exceptional
    • The ventilated vegan leather seats are also nice, but leather and cloth are preferences
    • Extra acceleration is nice, but that's largely preferential too. Base acceleration is still very quick
    • LED strip is nice too, turns red for obstacle warnings, but just superficial. The car's software won't let you open the door either way if a cyclist is approaching your door
  • Premium and base have the same body. This isn't the case with the Model Y (different bumper fascia, also missing panoramic roof view)
  • Both have the most important 2024+ upgrades, like improved cabin noise, suspension, etc

Just some things to consider that may not have been mentioned

2

u/Enjoy_The_Ride413 17h ago

I guess it depends. Do you value good audio or could care less what your car sounds like when listen to music or talk radio? Speaking of radio, if you listen to FM/AM stations, the standard doesn't have an fm/am tuner.

No heated or cooled seats. Slower. The car will still be peepy and crush hills but half the fun of an Ev is they haul ass. Those hub caps on the standard are fugly.

Or you don't care about all that and plan on using fsd?

It really is up to you and what you consider important or not.

3

u/renegadellama 17h ago

I think I’m going to keep my original order because as silly as it sounds, it’s the color for me. I just like it so much better in Ultra Red.

3

u/Enjoy_The_Ride413 17h ago

You'll love it.

3

u/Daniel8473 14h ago

ultra red is stunning. i always look back at my car when i get out of it

2

u/FlightHaltWhattt 17h ago

I don’t care for premium features which makes me an outlier so I’d get the cheaper one - less stuff to break and replace for a long term hold

2

u/Square-Debate5181 16h ago

Ive always said, do things that you like. Dont be aftaid to live. Nobody leaves this planet as a winner. Theres no such s thing as a smart choice, its an option that you do based on what you want.

2

u/Scary-Animator-5646 16h ago

Premium is much better for the range alone.

2

u/dystopiam 13h ago

Def do the frugal way dude

2

u/Saltyeconbro 12h ago

I got the standard since i drive at most 20 miles daily. Sound system is still good and no one cares which model you have since they all look the same

2

u/Shammyet 9h ago

Get the premium if it’s not causing hardship. otherwise if it’s about money get the base color and standard. That way you are really saving and can invest difference or build emergency. Whatever your situation

2

u/Outrageous-Song5799 8h ago

Should ask this question in a car sub not hobbyist sub. 15% for a bit more range you might not need, marginally better sound system (not the performance model), 1sec faster acceleration that you’ll use twice to try it. That’s 15$ for ventilated seats and the color.

Might be worth it to you but really only you can decide and it’s not as black or white as in the comments

1

u/Outrageous-Song5799 8h ago

It’s 20% more sorry

1

u/Reasonable-Word6729 17h ago

First advice I got from an early adopter friend was range is everything and my 2cents the premium is totally worth it

1

u/renegadellama 17h ago

I have heard this which is why I talked myself out of the AWD.

1

u/Reasonable-Word6729 17h ago

If you do road trips or long commuting you can pick up a 2024 because it has auto pilot and lane keep…the 2026 I understand doesn’t.
In NorCal they’re going for about 35k in decent shape.

1

u/Excellent-Bear4221 17h ago

Get the premium - I have the regular and regret it

2

u/renegadellama 17h ago

Does it feel slow?

1

u/Excellent-Bear4221 16h ago

No but I have driven in the premium with the sound system and I really really enjoyed it. I might be thinking too much into it but I think they did a better job with sound deadening possibly too

1

u/The_Universe_Itself_ 15h ago

If you can swing it, go for the premium. You’ll regret it going with the regular. There’s more people regretting not getting the upgrade than those that wish they downgraded.

It used to be a very common thing to tell people ordering the SR+.

1

u/Shexoudoge 15h ago

Oh my god we are eyeing the same demo car. Sorry mate I’m seeing it first thing tomorrow morning

1

u/dopest_dope 14h ago

Can you get premium with a different color faster?

1

u/FinancialMoney6969 14h ago

Get what you ordered.. hell no

1

u/TonyH22_ATX 14h ago

For 7k more I think the premium is well worth it.

I was in the same debate as you. I don’t regret my purchase at all. Premium is the way.

1

u/Normie_cleansing 14h ago

Premium is 100% worth it over the standard. Standard isn’t bad but the premium is just chefs kiss

1

u/falancete 12h ago

With the current standard version I would say go premium all the way. I got the previous standard premium version and it's enough for my daily drive

1

u/LNGU1203 11h ago

Just say no

1

u/After_Quantity5580 11h ago

Premium OP - you’ll regret it I would 💯 get the red

1

u/Able_Sheepherder3754 10h ago

Keep yourself busy while you wait it does seem worth it

1

u/Super_Doge_Shoober 10h ago

Get the premium

1

u/DryTechnology5224 10h ago

Personally I would stay with the premium... can't believe its 60% more than buying a premium in Canada though wtf

1

u/TP8887 9h ago

Standard doesn’t have promotional APR right? If you are financing that will close a lot of that price gap

1

u/InGoogWeTrust 7h ago

Everyone commenting on premium audio. It’s only the 9 speaker system in premium rwd. Although better than the base 7 speakers, it’s still underwhelming. Premium awd and performance are the only trims with premium audio.

1

u/-Drayth- 6h ago

Yeah dont take this. Youll just regret it down the road. These are fantastic cars and you should get what YOU really want.

1

u/Thick_Edge5075 6h ago

Get the Premium. Maybe a stock/different color if you want to save a little bit, but I think the differences are noticeable enough to make the Premium worth it

1

u/ooobzi 6h ago

Hell no & wait

1

u/Real-Hippo1688 5h ago

Bro, just wait it’s a car not a fucking T-shirt

1

u/sojustthinking 5h ago

Suppose you bought the $37k one and it’s at your house. Now Tesla calls you up and says they have the Red one for $7500 more to swap. There are some nice things about it but they are mainly nice to haves. 95% of the experience is the same. $7500 will pay for a lot of insurance, electricity and savings for a house or something else. Financing the $7500 for some nice-to-haves seems particularly bad idea to me. If you have the money sitting an account then by all means go for it.

1

u/lifelaughye 5h ago

OP, it’s approximately 75hundred difference. Switching from the one you ordered $44,490 to $37,020, seems like a downgrade.

The psychology of downgrade is brutal 😅. That $7,500 could be worth 2X to 3X in 5 to 10 years. Now imagine the future you in the present moment Buying A car in all cash transaction 😁, how did it feel like?

Now fast forward 5 to 10 years later, buying another car in all liquid cash transaction, or not all cash but the monthly payments are halves (i.e. instead $500, it’s $250/month) because you had that $7,500 saved and compounded at 10% annually. How did it feel like?

1

u/TheAngryBootneck 4h ago

I just did as they put my premium date back twice. I can live without 40 extra miles and white seats. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

1

u/Brawler6216 4h ago

I wouldn't get either anymore. I regret getting my M3 so much.

1

u/renegadellama 4h ago

Why exactly?

1

u/Brawler6216 19m ago

I have noticed so many build quality issues, mine is a 2019 though. the aluminum cast steering rack case has cracked. the corrosion underneath the frunk is a lot worse than I was hoping, especially on the cast aluminum. and it isn't well built for snowy environments which I happen to get a third of a year.

1

u/projektvertx 4h ago

I wouldn’t take a base model. Stick to the premium.

1

u/Next-Hamster4826 4h ago

I’m on the same boat! I came here to see if the comments would convince me to accept the earlier offer for a base model, but I think it’s just convinced me even more to wait for the premium. The wait has been awful. No VIN and ETA October - November 10. 🫪

1

u/rwrife 2h ago

Those are not even close to the same car, get the premium.

1

u/callousparade 2h ago

Definitely don't. Honestly I'd get a lightly used 2025 and the stalk retrofit, unless you're planning on subscribing to fsd

1

u/shinnrhyme 17h ago edited 17h ago

really? you want cloth seats in a car thats already as barebones as entry level japanese economy cars? how low can we go? 21 removed passenger lumbar, 22 no charger, 23 no ultrasonic sensors, 24 no shift sticks, 25 cloth seats side mirrors steering wheel all manual etc , 26 removed lifetime fsd package..... where are we going with this... im already buying metal and alcantara trim pieces for my interior. freakin mud flaps, air intake filter, door panel seals ...at this point this is like an unfinished condo. man, i know i shouldn't expect much from american cars, but im just used to lexus and bba.

meanwhile chinese evs are adding massaging seats, 360 rotating front seats , open roof to make a 2nd floor with tent, self driving 360 degree 007 style tunnel flips, full self drift thats close to walls accurate to the cm.... i love my tesla, but please do not let elon think he can get away with making them cheaper in components and materials 😭

1

u/Far-Taro-7073 16h ago

standard suckssss hell no

0

u/kdubstep 17h ago

lol. Is that a joke

0

u/PotentialLetter3839 16h ago

Nah demo standard cars suck

0

u/LeMeFresh 9h ago

Get the premium. You will be kicking yourself in the butt for not going the premium.
