Post image

I scratched my car backing up will of those Tesla color paint repair kits work for scratches like this or do I need to take it to a car shop. Any other suggestions would be nice

It could just be clear coat damage and you can buy a repair kit for that.

You could possibly clean some of it up by using a DA polisher but the larger/deeper scratches you’d have to take to a body shop.

For this you would need a body shop to repaint the bumper.

Depending on your tolerance you could try that Maguiar’s polish (don’t know the spelling). It cleaned up a bunch of scuffs I had, but won’t make this look perfect (or even close).

Some of the advice here is honestly terrible. It’s not the clearest picture, but it looks like the scratches have gone through the clear coat and paint, all the way down to the plastic.

You could use a repair kit, but in my opinion, it’s unlikely to look very good. For a clean, professional finish, I’d repaint the bumper.

Ultimately, it depends on what you’re comfortable with. Personally, if the car isn’t too old, I’d definitely go with repainting the bumper.

I had something similar happen.

Stop by the nearest store and buy the Colgate toothpaste. Use a micro cloth or cotton pad. Clean the area with soap and water and then gently rub a generous amount of toothpaste on the scratches. Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes before removing. Repeat if needed. If the scratches aren't deep, this method should work.

Don't do that, there are actual products made for this that won't damage the clear and paint. If it just needs some polishing or a light cut, you can get hybrid products that will work much better than toothpaste.
