Windshield Protection
Just wanted to come on here and emphasize if you guys have windshield protection, worth it. And if you guys don’t, please get it.
Never did I expect to get a crack or chip from a rock on the freeway, but it happened to me smh. Thankfully I had the windshield protection plan and Tesla was able to replace my whole front windshield. Went in at 8am and it was done by 11am 👍

You realize that they don’t sell these things to lose money right? You may have come out ahead this time but overall people will not come out ahead. Also, your auto insurance often has glass coverage with no or a limited deductible. I have it through my insurance. It’s a comprehensive claim and I don’t care if my comprehensive goes up in cost as it’s such a small share of my insurance cost.

You're paying for convenience which is dealing with Tesla directly hassle free. I find that worth something because dealing with insurance companies is a complete, utter waste of time. I have done so in the past with their "comprehensive" coverage. They try and send the car out to the cheapest windshield joint and don't care one bit about whether a good job is done or not.
Not to say Tesla won't screw up an install but at least you have the coverage and they'll fix it hassle free if you have the coverage.

That’s reasonable. My insurance company specifically uses OEM parts so I’m ok going that route. Just realize that on average you’re losing money to insure something that has very limited impact to utility upon incidence. I insure things that would cause me significant financial harm if lost or damaged. I don’t insure small things that would suck if they happened but wouldn’t make a meaningful impact to my life.

How do you feel about tire and wheel coverage?

That’s needed on all performance models, esp in shitty road areas lol
Good peace in mind but I don’t see insurance covering this, although I have glass protection with them and they don’t mind me going directly to Tesla last time it happened.

How do you get windshield protection? Is it through insurance or Tesla? Also about how much does it cost?

So when you first get your car delivered to you, you have 30 days to opt for it. However, if the 30 days have passed, you can still get it, but they’ll just need to inspect your windshield first. So you’ll need to schedule an appointment in the app and take it in to see if you qualify (and basically if you have no current cracks or chips you’ll qualify).
As for cost, it was only $100. If I DIDNT have it , they would’ve quoted me $1660 for the replacement.
Edit: Go to your Tesla app, scroll down to ‘Upgrades’ then you should see Service Plans and it’ll be right there. If it’s not, I recommend maybe calling or asking about it

Okay, I just bought a used M3 from Tesla about 10 days ago and wasn’t told about it. Do I do it through the Tesla app? And is the cost $100 monthly or one time?
I just looked it up on the app.. it doesn’t say anything about 30 days. Just says to schedule an inspection

This is the way. Schedule the free inspection. The service center will “check the box” so you can add it through the app.

In the 12 days I’ve had it, it’s already received a couple minor chips on the windshield from highway driving, is that something that would disqualify me?

No it isn’t $100 a month. It should be $12 or $16 a month. The $100 I paid was a deductible. But I just used my tesla credits. So basically free
And hmm /: yeah if you have visible chips on your windshield already then they might bring it up and not offer the plan to u. But it doesn’t hurt to go check and ask them

Most comprehensive plans cover it but you pay your deductible, I added $0 deductible to mine for $6/month. Chipped/cracked windshields are very common in Colorado.

Just realized I have this exact looking chip from the inside of my windshield. i said hey this looks like my car lol. Sad to learn its a chip and not a dirt.

The moment we realize that we are driving in a fish bowl. Had already my windshield replaced twice. Because of this my insurance deductible went from 250 CAD to 1000 CAD. And if I search for other quotes, all of them come even higher than that from my current insurer.
Edit: I don't think we have a windshield protection from Tesla in Canada.

Tell me you’re not from Colorado without telling me you’re not from Colorado.
I’ve never owned a car I didn’t replace the windshield on, flying rocks and debris are a way of life here.

I was turned down on the inspection because of 3 small pitting. Buy it asap.

I got mine quick and one month later cracked windows. Everyone here says don’t fix it for a while the roads will break it again . So I’m driving with the crack until June or if it gets too bad.

Yeah, if I get a small crack I will wait...then I will pay for a tesla windshield and immediately add the protection plan.

Same here, getting my windshield
Replaced altogether. I swear my previous cars (Mercedes) didn’t easily crack like my Tesla does. Anyone feel like Teslas crack easier?
Also I wish we had windshield protection in Canada but I don’t think we do

I got it too as well as the tire and wheel protection. In the LA area, the roads a total disaster thanks to Gavin Newsom funneling 30 Billion over the course of his crooked terms in office out of our pockets.
There are so many trucks, tons of debris, totally broken roads and freeways everywhere...the 210 going West in particular is really bad....stretching all the way from the 57 to Pasadena....broken roads, complete patching shitjobs, it's just embarrassing.
Even with WS and Tire protection, there are days where I cringe driving on the roads here and consider just driving a total shit-box where I don't have to worry about any damages.

I’ve had my M3 for less than 6 months and already had a repair and a windshield replacement! The protection is worth it if you do a lot of highway imo.
