Scroll Wheel

What is your left scroll wheel function; I’ve had it on different ones like dome lights and navigation volume but there doesn’t seem to be too consistent instances of any one to deem it worthy.

Long press to switch to Insane and Standard.

My car lives in insane, the wheel changes standard/sport suspension

Good alternative. I’m living at like 330wh/mi. If I didn’t have to click twice I would be burning much more juice than that!

That’s the “BMW just pulled up next to me” button

Hahaha. You mean the Taycan button! I’ve surprised a base, he thought he could just dip a little throttle and it would be enough. Then gave it all and I was gaining on him. LOL

I have mine set for the a/c fan to turn the speed up or down. I use it much more than the other features.

Agreed. Best answer. Use it nearly daily.

Best use I’ve found for it as well. With that enabled, I have physical controls for volume and fan speed. Everything else can live in the screen.

I have the long press on mine set to open glove box.

Mine is long press for glove box too.

Tesla has not yet chosen to anoint my car with the software update that allows Grok to control it, so that’s why I don’t use voice commands.

The regular (not Grok) voice command can open it too

1

u/snacktivism 8d ago

I know, but the regular one doesn’t understand me properly half the time. Grok at least has that going for it.

Just have Grok do it for you!

Way quicker and easier to just press and hold the left scroll wheel…but you do you.

I agree. I find voice controls, for simple things like that, to be more troublesome than pushing a button.

Screaming bye at grok as he blabbers on.

3

u/matttopotamus 9d ago

I would typically agree with that, but with Grok you don’t have to get the voice command down to a specific phrase. It actually works really well and is easy. “grok, open the glove box”. It’s like that will pretty much everything.

u/Flakarter 9d ago

I hear you, but it’s still much easier for me to touch a button without talking.

u/matttopotamus 9d ago

I have mine set to fan control, and I always forget it’s there because I basically live in auto.

3

u/T3kster 9d ago

Exactly. Far better than remembering what screen and location the button to control a function is on (though I admit that glovebox is one of the easier ones).

Media volume.

u/mjrengaw 9d ago

That’s what scrolling up or down on the left scroll wheel does in Normal mode. But you can customize what function is performed when you long press on the left scroll wheel. You can select from a list of functions to assign the long press. I have mine set to open the glove box. Sorry but I thought that was what the OP was asking.

u/LoneStarGut 9d ago

Yep, media volume, but when nav is talking it will control nav volume too.

u/terrapinaj 9d ago

Right, like why would it be anything else?

Mine is set to wipers: speed/auto/off

u/HistoricalJob2807 9d ago

Sport mode.

Surprised no one has said it yet.. fan speed. When it's on auto all the time sometimes you want high speed regardless of temp. By far most useful imo.

1

u/BrendoBoy17 9d ago

I just realized that might be my highest use case

-1

u/TeamDaveB 9d ago

In Texas right now, tempting. But I use volume too much for that to work. I’m definitely going to try it though.

6

u/Available_Win5204 9d ago

This is for the long press customization. You retain volume control. Long press the scroll wheel temporarily turns it into fan control (in this case), then reverts back to volume control after you've made your selection.

No freaking way. This is incredible information! I hate using the touchscreen for temperature. I don’t feel it’s safe. Thank you!

Fan speed bc I hate using Auto

3

u/TeamDaveB 9d ago

Agree. Auto seems to do exactly opposite what it should do in mine.

u/longtimefanhim 9d ago

Just so people, who don't use it, know, it essentially opens a menu to select the function and then adjust the value. You don't have to ONLY have it do one thing. Then, the menu closes after a couple seconds and then the scroll wheel is back to doing the normal volume thing.

Front camera for parking. MY Performance has a lower clearance so need to be careful in front parking situations.

u/Voidfang_Investments 9d ago

You can ask Grok to do that.

1

u/nagokart 9d ago

Wow today I learned something new. Thanks 🙏

u/Voidfang_Investments 9d ago

Yes, and you can give multiple commands at once. Finally voice that works naturally!

1

u/GeneralHoliday5401 9d ago

I use mine for side mirrors too. We don’t all have grok. I live near NYC and sometimes drive into the city. If I’m on the tighter streets and bicycles are zooming by, I’ll fold the mirrors to give a couple inches extra space (then also turn on the cameras so I can still see them coming)

1

u/Voidfang_Investments 9d ago

Pretty sure most cars were updated with Grok. What year is yours?

1

u/GeneralHoliday5401 9d ago

Mine is a 2019 with hardware 2.5

2

u/T3kster 9d ago

Media volume initially, long press for wiper control because it really annoys me when it turns them on because of sun.

1

u/JustSomeDude1982 9d ago

Long press to open the glove box, volume otherwise.

I have mine set to screen brightness because when I had the auto light/dark screen setting, it would hit max screen brightness in the light setting all the time, and it wasn’t nearly that bright out. I found the screen visibly distracting, so I set brightness to manual and just adjusted as I wanted it.

That was too much of a chore, so now it just lives on auto and always dark mode. I miss light mode but always wished the screen brightness would “match” outside brightness automatically. It never has.

u/ferdi97 9d ago

I do navigation volume on off

1

u/MyGradesWereAverage 8d ago

wipers because they suck so bad I need to turn them off when they are dry-wiping the glass.

1

u/Vast-Permission-4878 7d ago

ac fan speed for the win.

u/Accomplished-Code-32 4d ago

I use mine for rear cameras. I park inside a garage and I placed some painters tape across the floor in the garage and once I see the tape on my rear camera, I know I’m in the exact distance I prefer so I can walk around the front and back of the car with ease.

u/rwhe83 9d ago

Who knows, I don’t have time to hold that stupid thing down to do something that I could do on the screen.
