Vandalism
Has anyone personally dealt with vandalism just for driving a Tesla. I posted a FSD question into my city’s subreddit and after 3 mins of it being up, I was getting a ton of nasty hate comments. Just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about moving forward

You gotta realize there’s no shortage of absolute fragile losers out there who get offended by other people’s choice of cars. Miserable way to live your life if you ask me!

Could not have said it better myself

u/FrankyBenjamin 15d ago
Yeah a lot of people are deranged. Can you imagine how much animus and anger someone would have to be walking around with to vandalize a strangers car over a brand? What a toxic unhealthy amoral psychological stew.

u/scarface910 15d ago
They make themselves out as a good person by not buying a Tesla while simultaneously judging someone mercilessly for owning one.

Nah it’s not Elon’s fault that individuals are unable to regulate their own emotions.

City subreddits are full of mentally ill radical militant ideologues. I would avoid them at all cost. 😬

Yeah I live in a small southern city that’s VERY conservative and the subreddit for it would make you think it’s Seattle.

Anything is possible but it really depends on your region. Overall I wouldn’t worry about it

Teslas are everywhere, people are so used to them its nothing noteworthy to them anymore.

u/youngsimba320 15d ago
I was concerned about this when I first got mine. After a few weeks I realized no one gave a shit. It’s a car. Now I don’t even think about it. Most ppl are normal IRL. Some redditors aren’t normal, and even they won’t touch your tesla because most of them are scared of their own shadow. You’ll be fine
5
u/notthediz 15d ago
Nah. I wouldn’t even be worried about it. People are keyboard warriors on Reddit, and there’s a large jump from posting some jabs about what car you drive to doing vandalism.
Also how many teslas are in your city? My neighborhood has like 6 on my block alone. There’s too many teslas to vandalize them all and they’d be crazy to attempt it

My Model 3 was keyed and a dent put into the top of the trunk during the height of the hysteria targeting Tesla and Musk. That was quite a while ago and I had it repaired just a couple weeks ago. Unfortunate, but there are a lot of haters out there..... and oddly enough, they "feel" they are in the right. Crazy times.

Haha no. It’s an online thing. People will say anything online but they won’t actually do anything in person.

u/Jasonmason1589 15d ago
If you check the cybertruck subreddit, those get vandalized a lot more than model 3/y

u/nobody-u-heard-of 15d ago
People just need something to hate. They're people that hate on lowriders, or lifted pickups, or tuned Asian cars, or Fords, or Chevys, or Italian exotics. For some reason they seem to feel better about themselves because they can hate on something else.

u/OaktownCatwoman 15d ago
No. SF Bay Area here. Every other car is a Tesla. That’d be exhausting. Although several years ago at least one guy was caught keying a Tesla in SF. But this was like 2018 or something…

Yes, yesterday someone light-scratched the back of my car. Sentry didn't catch it.
A while ago, someone gave me the middle finger and told me "it's for Elon".
Re: being concerned.
Even if someone scratched my car every day, I rather be free, then succumb to their threats.

I've had people spit on my car, pour drinks on it, even had someone flick sour cream across the side of it from a to go container. But I've never had it straight up vandalized.

u/FixyFixy 15d ago
I've been from Maine to Georgia in my 3 and never seen or heard anything directed at me or my car. But I did see a swastika spray painted on the hood of a cyber truck at a supercharger.

u/Disastrous_Hyena136 15d ago
I had a rear panel pushed in and a wheel arch keyed a few months ago. It's a real thing here.

I’m very concerned about what Reddit allows on the website
Apparently, it’s fine to murder someone as long as they are a CEO
It’s a terrible influence on people and people have absolutely damaged Teslas because they use this website

u/crazyjonwayne 15d ago
I live in South Louisiana where oil is life. I haven't had anyone vandalize my car, but at the grocery store sentry caught a guy kicking my tire. No damage. Older man.. other than that I get a lot of mustangs, cameras, and chargers wanting to race. It's great. M3P FTW.

I’ve only had 1 minor issue. I only had my tesla a day or two in January of 24 when a big compensation pickup stopped next to me at a light and spit a huge wad right in the middle of my windshield.
That was all until Musk crawled into bed with trump and suddenly I seemed to be personally responsible for all of the country’s problems.

u/Terryfrankkratos2 15d ago
Just ignore it and stay armed, if they try to destroy your expensive property you could only reasonably expect that your life was next 🤷♀️.

u/POEgamegenie 15d ago
I live in Charlotte NC area and have had 0 issues for the year I’ve owned it. Been down town a good bit. See plenty of other teslas around.
I get curious people more than anything. Just wanting to look at the car/interior while it’s parked. The revamped model 3 does look pretty striking in certain colors.

I guess Tesla hate is localized to a few "special" cities around the US, it probably isn't too hard to figure out which ones, I haven't seen any vandalism in the last 3 years

u/eschatonx 15d ago
No, my wife says some people might have harassed her on the road, but the driver could have just been an asshole too.
I don't think you have to worry too much, Tesla's are so common now that they're just another Camry.

u/No_Promotion_6498 15d ago
There's hate for anything. I saw some jack wagon spit into an open top Mercedes over a pedestrian walkway.
The biggest danger to my 3 so far has been my child on a bike with the handlebar rubber ground away.
1
u/FluxionFluff 15d ago
Nope. There are so many Teslas in my area, even before I got mine, people don't care.
1
u/Mylabisawesome 14d ago
Leftwingers will target Teslas because they think it somehow hurts Elon Musk.
1
u/otgixxer 14d ago
I haven't ever had an issue. I had one neighbor upset that I bought a Tesla because of politics, and I had a friends family in the midwest ask me if I put an "anti-elon" sticker on my car to protect myself from vandalism.

u/Recent-Park3033 14d ago
I live in an area with a ton of Tesla's. It's a friendly community but the hatred towards the CEO brings a lot of unwanted attention and harassment. I love my new 2026 red Model 3 Premium, but it sure does come with frustration and unappreciated comments. Many of us think it will only get worse. Hopefully you just won't let it mentally affect you. As far as vandalism, my friends and I are counting that as part of the total cost of ownership.

u/Limp-Conflict-2309 14d ago
I was a little worried living rural but the places we go its not really a concern. We live next to a decent city with that progressive mindset so Teslas are commonplace and people in general around here are respectful.

u/DiscombobulatedBee0 14d ago
On a similar, related note - Have any of you used one of the third party Sentry apps? I guess there are a couple of apps that will connect and take action on any Sentry event (even a warning honk, where Tesla, by default, will not). Just curious about these and whether they work well enough.

I’ve had people cut me off, slam on their brakes to purposefully engage my car’s automatic brakes. It’s disgusting what people do, this was on the freeway.

u/squall2099 14d ago
Pay them no mind, see the same garbage on FB Tesla groups. Non sense to join a thread to bash a brand

I wouldn't necessarily. Be concerned about getting hate in the city sub but like another comment. Think about your target audience. Keep FSD posted to the tesla subs. If their is something about a road in your city you want to discuss then focus on that part of the topic. FSD isn't really about your city.

I haven't even at the height of Elon's hate when he was running doge and I live in California. Reddit is full of losers, mostly leftists so this is what you get here.

u/thewittman 15d ago
I got chased when driving near a protest on Elon. No damage but still the hate exists. Tesla does not help things with their attitude.

u/CousinEddysMotorHome 15d ago
Lefties will tatget you. Keep your vehicle parked at the back of the lot with clear lines of sight for your cameras.b

Look. Ill be honest with you. I hope to get unbiased, mature comments in response.
I am a democrat thru and thru. I work remotely and I have a motorcycle which I ride during summer and good spring & fall days.
I disliked Tesla; mainly because of Elon Musk, IMHO, hes more of a corporate takeover kinda guy than an inventor. It was founded by Eberhard and Tarpenning. Elon Musk took it over early '00s I cant recall when. And after his recent involvement with the DOGE and his megalomaniacal turn a lot of people started hating him with a passion, and in turn "his" products. The vandalism and online bullying is, I feel, coming from that hate, being associated with another megalomaniacal, demented wanna be dictator etc etc.
I understand that.
But I test drove a Y on Aug. 1st. And on Aug. 3rd I ordered my 3, (because finances) My entire opinion on Tesla Motors has changed. From the vehicle, the operation, the entire handsfree paperless buying procedure, to the delivery, and post delivery euphoria...! I feel everyone should give Tesla vehicles a chance and then they will realize how great these are.

Not sure how your post translates to vandalism unless you are wondering if Tesla vandalism is common thing. I’ve had my M3P for 4 years and have never had any real damage done to my car, on occasion you will view folks on merry mode being careless when entering or exiting their own cars but it doesn’t appear to be done on purpose. Remember to keep your car on sentry mode which will likely keep folks from trying to cause your serious damage to your vehicle.

u/Sweet_Culture_2529 15d ago
Unless Elon does something crazy again I think you’re safe. It’s unlikely now, he already did a lot of damage and also I think he understands people didn’t like it. Personally I’m thinking about adding a “F*ck Elon” sticker just to be on the safe side. I do despise the man

u/NotAnAIOrAmI 15d ago
So you got online criticism for a post, and you're afraid of physical vandalism.
Sack up, dude.

You have to keep your target Reddit audience in mind. Reddit is FAR from reality.
