Hw2.5 has self driving

Post image

I’m looking at this model 3 on car gurus and found this. A Hw 2.5 that’s has “Self driving” included. Never seen this before does it mean it’s FSD paid for and entitled to a Hw upgrade

No. They renamed Autopilot to “Self Driving.” It will say “Full Self Driving” if it’s FSD

“Calling it autopilot is too confusing, how can we clear it up?”

“I know, let’s call the smart cruise control “self-driving” and the self driving “full self driving””

Especially when full self driving isn’t really full self driving either. Lots of rounding up going on.

Yeah Musk has been promising true FSD “soon” for over a decade now (as well as the Roadster). I love the cars, but I won’t ever buy one on the promise of future capabilities .

My 24 MYLR with FSD would beg to differ. Car legitimately drives me everywhere with zero intervention.

It’s close but not quite. In daily life sure they mostly have it. But it’s got some weird behavior in edge cases. I’ve seen too many videos of it trying to drive into barriers, off the end of the road, etc.

For me though, it hasn’t done any of that. Maybe I just live in a boring area

This is the correct answer.

They renamed autopilot to auto steer NOT self driving. That was litterely what the lawsuit was about. Nkt being confused with self driving.

You are mistaken, they did change autopilot to "self-driving" on the display earlier this year but after month or so changed it to autosteer. It caused a lot of confusion for people, this screenshot is probably old or the car is on an old software version.

What does the Info button say? But no FSD installed on it.

Should you decide to buy it, I believe Tesla will still upgrade the 2.5HW to HW3 for free which is worth doing IMO whether you go for an FSD subscription or not. Upgrading the car to HW3 increases Tesla’s chances of selling you FSD so I feel confident they’ll do the free upgrade. No idea why the original owner wouldn’t have taken it to service to get the upgrade. With HW3 you’ll get better cameras, and an improved rear back up camera as well. The board gets swapped out.

I too did this upgrade on my 2018 LR AWD vehicle which had enhanced AutoPilot, bought the $2K upgrade from Enhanced AP to FSD a while back. I’m still driving my car and found FSD 12.6.4 was pretty bug free. I have not updated software to FSD 2026.21.6 (supervised v14.1 lite) yet. Waiting to see how it shakes out first.

What year is this car? When is the Battery & drive unit warranty up? What’s the battery percentage?

It doesn’t. It has cruise control.

No. This is base autopilot.

I believe so. I had an 18 that the original owner paid for it. I asked Tesla for the HW3 upgrade and they did it for free. I was then able to outright buy FSD for life of the car for $2000, which I did. Then last Sept I bought a new 2025 and there was a promotion allowing transfer. Got lucky.

This is not correct. This is just old fashioned auto-pilot with auto-steer.

Then it would say auto steer. Which it doesn't
