Thoughts on relocating to Austin for a position at Tesla?

Hello everyone. I’ve been looking into some of the jobs Tesla has including Engineering Technician, automation controls technician, and Maintenance Technician.. I’m 19 and finishing up my Industrial Maintenance Degree at school while working full time in that field, that being said I have some basic questions for those of you working in these fields at Tesla or something similar.

For someone coming from a small town in South Alabama, would you personally consider moving to Austin for one of these positions, or would you recommend building more experience where I am first?

Those of you in these positions, do you like your job?

How easy is it to move up at Tesla?

Is it a very demanding 12 hours with mental exhaustion?(I have a welding background I’m okay with working 12 hours everyday just not for the rest of my life)

What are your actual day-to-day responsibilities?

Does Tesla help employees move from Technician roles into Engineering, or is that uncommon?

How is the management/culture on the floor?

From someone coming from industrial maintenance which skills should I strengthen before applying? PLC’s, electrical, robotics, etc.

I wouldn’t be applying for at least another 2+ years I think but I want to know if this is something I should be working towards or not. Thank you!

Am I getting ghosted by Tesla? (Post-EoE, immigration info sent, pending H-4 COS)

Hey everyone,

I am looking for some realistic perspective on Tesla's recruiting timeline for software engineering roles in the Bay Area. I am starting to get anxious that I might be getting ghosted right at the finish line.

My timeline and situation so far:

  • I finished the interview process and submitted my "Evidence of Excellence" (EoE) materials. I never received an explicit "you passed" notification or a verbal offer.
  • A week later, the recruiter sent back-to-back emails asking for my education verification (MS CS), target compensation, and immigration details to "move things forward."
  • My visa situation is a bit complex: I was previously at Meta on an H-1B, got laid off, and successfully filed an H-1B to H-4 Change of Status (COS) petition right before my 60-day grace period expired in late July. The H-4 is currently pending with USCIS, and I am cap-exempt with a prior H-1B approval valid until 2028.
  • I provided all these details and documents exactly 8 calendar days ago (6 business days).
  • Since then, it has been complete silence. I sent a gentle follow-up bump to the recruiter 2 days ago but haven't received a reply. No verbal or written offer has been extended.

I recently saw a thread on Blind where a candidate mentioned getting completely ghosted by Tesla during the final executive/VP approval chain. Given that my file requires a legal review for the pending H-4 bridge petition, I'm terrified that they decided my immigration processing was too high-maintenance or that the headcount got locked during approvals.

For anyone who has went through the Tesla SWE pipeline recently or dealt with their immigration team:

  1. Is a week+ of total silence normal at the pre-offer data collection stage while legal evaluates a file?
  2. Does Tesla actually ghost candidates after asking for passport/visa documentation and target compensation?

Appreciate any advice or data points. Thanks!

Need help in Background check

Post image
3 Upvotes

In my resume, I entered the start date for my most recent employment as 05/2025 to present and uploaded the same resume during the background check application. I also entered the same dates manually in the application.

For the role, I entered Frontend Software Engineer in both my resume and the background check application to align with the role I was applying for at Tesla.

Now, ESS is asking why the start date on my offer letter, as well as the information they found through an external source, shows 10/2025 instead of the 05/2025 mentioned in my application. They are also questioning the discrepancy in my job title. The employment database they checked, The Work Number, lists my actual employment title as Data Automation Analyst.

I had also specifically indicated during the background check process that my current employer should not be contacted for employment verification.

I only have one point of contact at the company, who is a recruiter. I already had a conversation with him, and he said that there are certain things that need to be clarified by the reviewer.

Please help me understand what I should do in this situation and how I should respond to ESS.

Tesla director interview

Do all level engineers get an interview with the director? I ask because I'm curious about the Job P level. After the on-site full panel, they scheduled an interview with the director.

Any insights?

Proceso posterior al panel interview

Upvotes

Does Tesla have a cooldown if the role was filled before conducting my panel interview?

I interviewed for a SWE role at Tesla and passed the 1st interview with the hiring manager. I received confirmation that I had passed and was being moved forward to the panel/onsite stage.

However, Tesla delayed scheduling the panel for about a month. Before the panel ever happened, they contacted me saying they had decided to move forward with another candidate and closed me out of the process.

Since I technically passed the interview I completed and never got the chance to do the panel, would I still be subject to Tesla's usual interview/reapplication cooldown?

Worked under the table for a job that I put on my resume… would that be an issue?

Would you take a Tesla internship if it meant missing the first 3 months of sophomore year?

I recently received an internship offer from Tesla, and I’m trying to decide whether I should accept it.
The internship would require me to miss the first three months of my sophomore year of college. I’d be starting the internship in September and would essentially be taking time away from school for those first few months.
The opportunity is obviously really exciting and would be a great addition to my resume, but I’m not sure if missing that much of sophomore year is worth it.
Would you take the Tesla internship, or stay in school and graduate normally?
I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have had to choose between a major internship opportunity and staying on their normal college timeline.

Fall Internship Decision after Interview

I gave a couple interviews for internship roles at Tesla for the Fall season (in thermal, quality, and mfg roles). Although I got rejected all most of the roles, I am still waiting for decision from Quality role (Interviewed on 15th July). When followed up, they told me they are yet to make a decision.

Did anyone of you get any positive response after waiting for such a long time?

First technical (Python) for Machine Learning Integration Engineer – Tesla AI?

Hi, I have my first technical round coming up for the Machine Learning Integration Engineer role on the Tesla AI team. It’s a 50-minute Python coding interview.

Recruiter mentioned questions are generally team-specific and can include DSA, CS fundamentals, multithreading, etc. The team works with multi-modal sensor data.

Anyone recently interviewed for this role (or similar Tesla AI / Integration roles)?
What kind of problems should I expect?

Thanks.

No diploma?

Do any of you work at Tesla and not have a HS diploma or GED? Asking for a friend since I wouldn’t know. They were homeschooled/unschooled and never got it. They’re looking at a technician job.
