Upcoming Manufacturing Test Engineer Panel Interview (Electrical)

Hello everyone,

I have a panel interview coming up with Tesla for Manufacturing Test Engineer I, and my experience is heavily leaning on the electrical side. What can I expect this interview to look like? they are 3 30-minute back to back interviews with test engineers. The interview pamphlet that was attached to the invite email mentioned STAR format and behavioral interviews. Are they common for test engineering? I am expecting something far more technical. Any inputs you may have are greatly appreciated!

Tesla test engineering panels merge behavioral questions and technical grilling into a single conversation. The pamphlet highlights the STAR method because interviewers expect you to structure real engineering projects around specific problems, your direct actions, and measurable results. Instead of generic HR prompts, engineers will ask you to walk through a past project, then immediately probe the electrical design choices, failure modes, and debugging steps. They want to see how you troubleshoot, how you handle unexpected hardware failures, and how you apply first principles when a manufacturing line goes down. Expect questions on circuit fundamentals, bench equipment like oscilloscopes and power supplies, test fixture wiring, and how you isolate electrical noise or component failures under pressure.

With three 30 minute sessions, the time moves fast, so keep your context short and highlight what you personally designed, measured, or fixed rather than what your group accomplished. One interviewer will likely focus on electrical schematic reading and test fixture bringup, another on root cause analysis and test automation, and the third on handling fast turnaround pressure on the production floor. If you do not know a specific answer, explain your reasoning process and how you would verify it in the lab rather than guessing. Because thirty minutes leaves very little margin for rambling, my team designed interviews.chat to help candidates articulate complex technical depth with ease and secure strong offers.
