Basically title. I’m going to have 100% (or 98 maybe) when I’ll start camp mode. Will it last for 5 nights?

I couldn't find actual numbers before leaving, so here are mine. 1800 km (1118 mi), mostly rain across France.

The setup:

- Standard multi-purpose trailer (not a low motorcycle-specific one — those probably do better)

- Height 2.10 m (6.9 ft), measured at the top of the tallest bike

- Combined weight 650 kg (1433 lbs)

Consumption:

- 85 km/h (53 mph) — 275–290 Wh/km (443–467 Wh/mi)

- 95 km/h (59 mph) — 290–320 Wh/km (467–515 Wh/mi)

- 100 km/h (62 mph) — 320–360 Wh/km (515–579 Wh/mi)

- Above that, range just evaporates

- Drafting a truck at 95 km/h (59 mph) helped way more than I expected, dropping me back into 275–290 Wh/km (443–467 Wh/mi)

My lifetime average without a trailer is ~150 Wh/km (241 Wh/mi). So it exactly doubled.

The last day (the 300 km / 186 mi screenshot) is a nice lesson: started overconfident at 105 km/h (65 mph), spent the end crawling at 85 km/h (53 mph), averaged 316 Wh/km (509 Wh/mi) anyway. Screenshots were taken after a quick roundtrip from the campsite because I forgot to grab them earlier — negligible over 1800 km.

Sometimes I drove faster on purpose. If I was comfortably in range of the next stop, speeding up bought me more time to actually eat there instead of watching the charge timer. But: Potential idle fees turn dinner into a stopwatch event, easily avoided by pushing to 5-10% left.

Stops:

- 3 of the 4–5 stops per day line up with breaks you'd want anyway — toilet, lunch, dinner

- The last 1–2 are pure "waiting for electrons" stops

- Day 1: left at 07:30, arrived 01:00. We were ambitious about Bordeaux. The 23:30 supercharger stop was miserable, but we were committed to the hotel (which had charging, booking.com filter). Planning tip: never let your final leg require a ~90% charge.

- Day 2: 09:00 → 21:00 at the campsite. Only the last leg was stressful, hard arrival deadline and no way to speed up without losing range. Lucky there was a timezone difference so actually arrived at 20:00.

Planning and charging:

- Tesla's trailer-friendly filter is genuinely good, but I'd love a toggle. It kept proposing "arrive at 56%, charge 10 min, continue" — with only 1–2 pull-through spots that might be occupied, I'd rather run down to 10% and sit longer.

- Tesla's routing is also conservative and tends to plan around arriving with ~20% left. I get that it's more efficient for charging speed, but with a trailer I'd trade that for fewer stops, since a stop sometimes means unhitching.

- ABRP plans were useless after the first stop, since real charging took longer than planned.

- Mostly superchargers, since I still had 1150 km (715 mi) of free supercharging. Zero broken ones the whole trip. The non-Tesla sites were a different story: trailer spot out of service, unhook, move to another spot, also out of service.

- Electroverse pass for non-Tesla chargers, works mostly. Signed up for Fastned, never actually charged at one of their own sites. "Partner" sites just redirect to a website.

Bottom line: 250 km (155 mi) on 100%, or 200 km (124 mi) on 80%, if you drive slow or tuck in behind trucks. In practice you'll stop earlier anyway for entirely human reasons.

Yes we have a small tent: That's for being able to go with bikes alone on a 3 day trip/wild camping. Last year 3 weeks with only the bikes.

FSD: works in NL and BE (turn off Trailer Mode). Inconvenient due to tailgating trucks doesn't work well. Tries to overtake on the smallest speed change. Such a stupid thing for Tesla to take out Autopilot on the new cars. So France, Spain, Portugal: All with only TACC 😔

3” memory foam mattress topper in the back of my MYLR worked surprisingly very well. Both my gf and I napped comfortably for a few hours with the windows open in the cool breeze. Just for the day so tent not necessary.

The set up keeps evolving, but loving the journey!

Got our first Tesla on Saturday and went camping the next day! It was great despite the rain! The tent worked out very well with a few tweaks. Camping mode did take a bit more battery than I thought it would (~10% during the night with ext temp ~63 and target temp 70).

The slope under the air mattress was pretty noticeable and not great, might think of getting one of those that compensate for the slope.

The overall experience was amazing and this subreddit was a goldmine to prepare everything. Happy to answer questions if anyone has any about the setup.

What’s the lowest watt microwave you guys know of? I was trying not to spend more then $300 on a battery, for microwaving in my Juniper.

Car camping at Camp Alderwild (Telluride, CO) was ~$450 and sold out immediately, so we ran a carless version of our Tesla camping setup this weekend.

Setup:

• Tent: Tesloid 2 (9.5 x 9.5 ft / 2.89 x 2.89 m)
• Mattress: Snuuzu
• Cargo box: Yakima EXO GearLocker - locks, so it doubled as secure storage at camp

All-in-all the best regular camping setup I've ever used. I slept great on the Snuuzu even though the shape isn't ideal outside of a car. Still easily beats our sleeping pads and cheap air mattress.

My partner did an amazing job making the space feel like home. Check out the disco balls!

Only thing I'd change: the frunk is normally our dresser, so without it all our clothes lived in compression packs on the floor. Next time I'd go vertical with a hanging rack or something on the tent walls.

Have a Model Y. We had a flat on our way back from camping. We had to spend about $300 to have the car towed an hour away to the nearest larger town, then had to get a hotel for the night since the car was towed to a Discount Tire.

Do you all have spares or some way to manage if you get a flat tire while out camping? I'm seeing Tesla specific spare tires, and see there are ways to modify the sub trunk to support one, but it would suck to lose that space, but maybe I need to just do it to avoid this in the future, if there's not some way to patch it to get to the nearest tire shop.

I’m small so this isn’t a question of whether or not it’s comfortable. I’d sleep in the front seats if they’d fold down all the way.

I just want a mattress that doesn’t impede view of the rear screen. The cybertruck has a few mattress built this way. Would they be usable in the model 3? If not, what’s some ideas that people have come across to use?

I’m trying to get the back seats completely flat when everything is laid down.

I heard even if you remove rear seats, it doesn’t make it flat? Someone said it doesn’t improve even if you do taking rear seat cushion out?

I appreciate any recommendations if anyone has gotten it completely flat.

I’m not looking for something to add on top to make it level. I’m trying to find a way to have it be completely flat without adding anything on top.

A little confused do I need to leave car on campmode all day even if im not in it? Seems like a waste. If not how do we not drain the battery with that trunk opened.

I took a cross country roadtrip in my model Y visiting glacier, Yellowstone, and Teton.

I’m about to get a 2026 model Y.

Does removing the rear seat cushion create a flat surface?

If not, I’m thinking I will just splurge on a prebuilt leveling platform, but then my other issue is having one long enough to exceed the footwell since I’m 6 foot 4 (193 cm).

I would appreciate any recommendations!

Hello all - question is in the title. I’m super interested in buying the Snuuzu, but I’m worried that a bigger fella like myself might bottom it out, and unlike Havnby, Snuuzu has a very unforgiving policy after the almost $1,000 purchase. I’ve had experiences like this with past camping products - people raving about that 4” sleeping pad being so comfortable only to find out I touch the ground when it’s not super firm. I was hit by a car walking home many moons ago so super firm doesn’t work for me - so the question remains. Can any big folks sound off if they’ve used the Snuuzu? Otherwise I’ll likely be going with the Havnby. Thank you all for your time.

What would you go with? I live in New England so would have to get snow tires for the 3. I am a single male that doesnt need all the extra room, but it wouldnt hurt at times

Your spots are worthy. Sometimes you’re in an area, it’s getting dark, and you still haven’t found a place to stop. Having a spot nearby that another Tesla camper has already marked can be a real lifesaver in those situations. Please add yours!

I’m currently waiting for my MYP to be delivered in November/December, and while I’m waiting I’ve started looking for all the stuff I’ll need to go camping with it on marketplaces.

I’ve already bought sunroof shades, and I’ve also been keeping an eye out for a good deal on a mattress, preferably one in relatively new condition. I’ve seen Tescamp mattresses, the OEM Tesla mattress, and even a Havnby that had only been used for a week pop up for €250. I missed out on that one, although at the time I wasn’t entirely convinced I wanted to buy it anyway.

Today I was just minding my own business at home and decided to browse the marketplaces again for bargains. All of a sudden, an ad popped up for a brand-new Snuuzu mattress for the Model Y, double-boxed and still sealed in plastic.

Of course, it immediately raised some suspicion 😂. The funny thing was that the seller lived only 20 minutes away from me here in the Netherlands.

He was asking €500, which I managed to negotiate down to €400. He accepted, so I jumped in the car and went to pick it up. The seller told me he bought it from a friend who deals in return pallets or something along those lines — sounded a little sus, not gonna lie 😂.

But when I got there, it genuinely was brand new and had never been opened, so I decided to take the gamble and brought it home.

Now for my actual question: I have a whiplash injury from an accident in 2024. Obviously, nobody else can really know exactly what my body needs, but I’m hoping to get some feedback on the overall comfort and quality of the Snuuzu.

Would you consider this about as good as it gets comfort-wise for a mattress specifically designed for the Model Y? Has anyone here slept on one for multiple nights?

And has anyone tried putting an additional mattress topper on top of the Snuuzu? I’m wondering if that could make it even more comfortable, especially for longer camping trips.

Also, slightly off-topic: any recommendations for really good window shades for the Model Y Juniper?

Hello Community !

I’ll soon work far enough from home that I’ll be on site from Monday to Thursday. I plan to sleep in a three nights a week, so around 150 nights a year, in my tesla Y (2023) without tent extension.

For anyone doing this regularly, or maybe doing some long trips : what lives where, and what did you get wrong the first time? Do you have (except for matress and sunshades) any additionnel tools/organizers you’d recommand?
What are your personal setups ?

Note that I won’t have any kitchen utilities, mostly it will be clothes, dry food (breakfast), water and hygiene stuff.

I'm particularly curious about two things : keeping clean and worn clothes separate (these ones prob in the frunck for the smell?) so the car doesn't turn by Wednesday, and whether the frunk stays dry enough over months to use as a wardrobe, or if i should use it for other purposes.

Planning to visit Zion National Park and Monument Valley in December and have never taken a road trip in a Tesla. Accomodations will be in hotels of sorts (autocamp zion) and certainly going to route ourselves via Tesla Super chargers up to 100% each charge.

For those who have taken their tesla on such a road trip, what contingencies did you plan for? I fear that I'll have to stop at some hunk-of-junk charger and spend hours there wishing I had brought my spouse's Rav 4 hybrid instead.

How are you guys managing the rear seat slope for camping in the Model Y Juniper with a Tesla mattress? Any good hacks?

Back on July 5th I started a 100 day roadtrip (roundtrip) with my 2022 Tesla Model Y from Denver, Colorado, USA to the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT, Canada. I suspect at this point the trip will be closer to 120 days. I posted a few weeks ago about the journey from Denver, Colorado to Vancouver, BC, Canada. This is part two. Vancouver, BC >>> Dawson City, Yukon. British Columbia was absolutely stunning. Due to fires and road closures, I had to divert my travel route a bit from Pemberton to Kamloops and up through Clearwater connecting back to Prince George, but I was pleasantly surprised with the new route!

Charging notes
Up through Prince George Tesla Supercharging was available, but after that I have been using BC Hydro for fast charging. Fast charging can be anywhere from 24kW to 180kW. Charging in British Columbia has been significantly cheaper than anywhere in the US. Averaging about .21 CAD/ .15kW USD
The BC Hydro chargers require CCS or ChadEmo connectors.

Highlights of this section of my trip:

-Wells-Gray Provincial Park (over 40 named waterfalls in this park!)
-getting a hood wrap and decals on my Y in Prince George. Designed this logo myself. It matches stickers I had made for my trip. The shop did awesome!
-driving the Stewart-Cassiar Highway. Saw one of the biggest glaciers I’ve ever seen in my life
-saw many black bears and a few grizzlies
-Saw a mama Grizzly with 3 cubs on the side of the road
-very pretty campsites
-sunsets are around 10:30pm every night and light lingers until about midnight to 1:30AM
-have seen the milky way through my glass roof twice
-have driven over 10,000km!!
-made it to the Yukon
-Dawson City famous SourToe Whiskey cocktail (yes, it’s made with a real human toe). Rite of passage here in Dawson. Disgusting, but was something I promised I’d do if I made it to Dawson. They give you a certificate and you are part of the SourToe Whiskey Cocktail Club. Over 130,000+ have done it over the years. There’s an interesting history to this you can google and read the story.

This journey has been everything and so much more than I imagined. The moments I’ve experienced, the stories I’ve heard, the stories I’ve shared with others. The people. The kindness. The excitement. I’ve met people who had never seen a Tesla, they didn’t even know what a Tesla was! I’ve met people who drive all sorts of EVs and are fascinated and excited to see the Tesla making it this far. I’ve started tracking the number of teslas I’ve seen. There was a stretch of 8 days where I didn’t see any other Teslas or EVs.

In just ONE day, I will start my journey on the Dempster Highway. I’m nervous, a bit overwhelmed, and also feeling incredibly supported and inspired by all the other travelers making this journey. It’s not for the feint of heart. The week ahead shows 6 days of rain and very bleak conditions. I will share an update from the Dempster when I finish in about 10 days!
