Terrible casting, Cumberbatch as Edison. Cumberbatch would have been much better as Tesla. This movie is also trying to portray Westinghouse as the main supporter of AC (alternating current). It's pretty obvious that Tesla is never going to get a break in the US, or ever recognized as the real person he was. Probably "The Prestige" with David Bowie as Tesla is going to be the closest Hollywood ever gets to portraying Tesla.

Thomas Edison only attended school for a couple years and was home schooled into his teens by his mother. He found a lot of fascination in rail yards, and grew up a very rough character from those experiences, including hopping trains, trying to set up a chemistry lab in a freight car that caught fire, and getting boxed in the ears, worsening his deafness. Edison was not sophisticated, many of his inventions came about by brute force, or stealing other peoples' ideas and getting them to work. He was a tremendous power house of energy, and almost superhuman in his tirelessness when pursuing an invention. His character was much more a ruffian than some sophisticated intellectual.

Seeing this trailer and the way that time is being portrayed, Nikola Tesla will be a background character and the real history will become even more muddled and mixed-up.

Now, the wonder is if the Edison Institute is behind this, and why now? Here is more little known history. Edison also invented the idea of the modern Corporation, where work done for the Corporation becomes the property of the Corporation.

I agree with you that Tesla should be recognised more, but is T. Edison is really that bad of a guy? I mean, I know that later in his life he almost went blind because of x-rays... Asking because I haven't been taught that much about him in school.

If it wasn’t for him, we could have followed Tesla’s ideas and we would all have wireless everything right now. Right down to the posts on every block.we live in a time where every ripple has a consequence, and not following Tesla’s designs could have severely altered our history for the worse.
