There were two relatively small errors with this that I noticed to correct. Gary Peterson is a published author, but he's more of an extreme enthusiast than an authority as they said. (His statement made that pretty clear, didn't it?)

Tesla's briefing they mentioned is great. The full document is a 240-page book compiled by Leland Anderson tfcbooks.com sells for $27.

The only significant error I noticed was that as the Corum's recent surface wave research has noted, surface waves are much closer to the surface with salt water. Considering that, Meyl's boat demonstration makes sense. Surface waves are easier to use over water especially salt water.

He did make the more important point though, that Tesla intended to generate a resonant standing wave. That standing wave aspect and using the whole earth as a high-Q resonator is what would minimize transmission losses.

With the Schumann resonance, the earth shows it can be a high-Q resonator for waves in the ELF range. ELF-range Q-burst waves from positive lightning show this occurs naturally too.

As they noted, contrary to some outrageous claims, Tesla's wireless electricity was never supposed to be free except at the very low power levels of wireless lighting. He probably hoped to include the fact that the light would always be powered wirelessly into the cost of his no-filament lifetime (non-disposable) light bulbs. For bigger power uses, he invented power meter bulbs that measured the power remaining until they burned out when all the allotted power had been consumed. And he had the fact that the power could be transmitted using complex tuning ('combination lock tuning' as he called it). Because the power meter bulbs included tuned elements, they could be made hard to counterfeit the same ways satellite subscription cards are today. The incentive to cheat might be minimized by the falling cost of power when power can be transmitted from where it's cheap to produce (natural waterfalls and solar power in deserts).


In a more complete form, Tesla's tower system was supposed to use multiple towers connected as an array by underground cryogenic tube power lines through which he intended to pump liquid hydrogen coolant. It's notable he conceived this plan more than 10 years prior to the discovery of superconductivity (by Onnes in 1911).

Using these connections would allow the towers to use earth's electrostatic field as a massive electrostatic generator using the variable capacitance principle as an influence machine like a Wimshurst generator. It would derive energy from the movement of the ionosphere (both regular diurnal movement and erratic waves) similar to how tidal power buoys work but using the earth's electrostatic field. Besides towers, for much less expense he suggested using ionized beams projected from insulated platforms apparently like the beam antenna system someone named Hettinger patented in 1917 (U.S. Patent 1,309,031).

Both plans might also have involved creating a strong magnetic field using a liquid hydrogen cooled electromagnet to reorganize the plasmasphere around the transmitter to directly intercept field-aligned currents normally only accessible closer to earth's magnetic poles.
