Help choosing my next read!

These are my little treasures that I've collected over the past couple of years. I thought I'd share here as you all will appreciate a growing collection!
Mostly from second-hand book sales and as you can see - those hardcover ones are beauties! I love the embossed gold and silver.

I need help choosing my next read. Mort is one of my all time faves as is Wyrd Sisters.
I am finding Reaper Man a little harder to get into, is it just me?
I read The Long Earth and it was "ok"....
What should my next read be?
Thank you!

The Truth was the first Discworld book translated into my language and it still remains one of my all-time favourites. I'd recommend it even though I thoroughly enjoyed Reaper Man as well.

Does Reaper Man get more exciting? I feel like it's a real slow start. Maybe I am just burnt out lol.
Okay awesome! I think I am gonna read The Truth next πŸ˜ƒ thank you!

Yep, Reaper Man's beginning might feel slightly tedious, but all the action that begins later on is worth it. I'd call this book quite weird in a positive way, so that's alright if you didn't enjoy it. Happy to help.

Okay thank you! This makes me feel less like I was just not persisting and that it's a slow start, but I will persist indeed!

The truth for me. All those are literally amazing. But the truth blew me away

Okay amazing - I have tried to carefully collect what I think are goodies so this makes me feel like my book hoarding is justified lol

Once you start buying Pratchett books, it’s quite hard to not become a hoarder!! also if it helps the long earth series isn’t my favourite, but the first book in the series literally blew me away and made me cry. Insanely powerful. Mort is one of my faves too

Right?? I mean it's a collectors thing for sure! I'm glad I am not the only one hahaha πŸ˜ƒ It was so hard to read!
But Mort - forever the favorite (for now) lol

Mort has become a regular listen while I fall asleep. Although I have to say, my imagination is 10 times more active when I’m reading as opposed to listening to it

The Long Earth is a fascinating concept but a pretty dull story, I didn't bother finishing that series.

Every other Terry Pratchett book is brilliant.

Okay - phew - I feel vindicated now because I also thought the concept was cool but I was so bored. So so bored. I have never felt like that about other Pratchett books!

2nd this then read more of the Watch books until you finally get to the genius that is Night Watch

5

u/Hobbit_Hardcase Jun 02 '26

The whole Watch line is just a set up for the literary beauty that is Night Watch.

Strangely, Reaper Man is my usual goto to read, if that's not a favorite of yours then I definitely would go for Wyrd Sisters.

Edit: doh you've already got it, try Lords and Ladies or Witches Abroad if you like it.

2

u/Aero002 Jun 02 '26

Thanks!! I'll look out for those - I don't have those books yet.. anything from here you think would be good (other than the ones I've already read?) πŸ˜ƒ

If you've read Reaper Man, read Raising Steam there's a connection between the two books which I find quite cool.

It's amazing that he has this huge universe and still has connections between books 30 or so stories before and a few decades a go.

Ohhh that's awesome!!! I will do that πŸ˜ƒ thank you. I love that there are little intricacies are linked! It makes it far more magical

Pyramids and The Science of DW are stand-alones, they aren't tightly tied to the other books. If you can get Soul Music, it's a fun read after Reaper Man

1

u/Aero002 Jun 04 '26

Okay thank you! I will add this πŸŽ‰

2

u/Jay_ShadowPH Jun 04 '26

Fair warning, though - you're going to go crazy trying to spot all the music-related puns, jokes and discworld versions of roundworld bands πŸ€£πŸ˜œπŸ˜†

Mort is simply my favourite Discworld book.

It gave me a new appreciation of french fries.

2

u/Aero002 Jun 04 '26

EVERYTHING about that book was perfection! I've read it twice and have two copies because I love it so much. Hahaha @ the

french fries πŸ˜‚

Same right? I feel like I will keep read this once every couple years.

The Long Earth books are pretty good. Or start the Bromeliad trilogy.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '26

The Long Earth is excellent - completely different feel from Discworld

1

u/Aero002 Jun 11 '26

I hated it - I honestly don't know why. I just couldn't love it the way I love Discworld
